Towards the beginning of the primaries, or maybe in one of the later debates, Trump will finally say the thing that will make him totally toxic and unacceptable to the GOP leadership.

The GOP candidates will announce that they are uniting to keep him out. There are some meetings between the other campaigns in smoke-filled rooms to ensure that this is not only a safe bet but completely sure. Probably a bunch of people are promised Cabinet positions, and that means the person picked for President has to be a really smarmy deal-maker, someone like Christie or Bush. The unified party campaign manages to beat Trump's combined supporters.

Hillary Clinton has a surprisingly weak showing among primary voters. Bernie Sanders, like Obama in2 008, has a super-energized campaign and he squeaks through to become the Dem nominee.

Sanders has no cross-party appeal and Bush/Christie/Rubio/whoever is completely boring. Trump, as he threatened, enters the race as an independent.

Millions of Americans tune in to watch Trump at the debates. He continues to say shocking things and a large percentage of the country loves it. After the second debate the numbers are Sanders 30%, GOP 30%, Trump 40%.

All of this accept for the more likely end result of Trump 20% GOP 35% Dem 45%

Also, the candidate will definitely not be Christie.

E: no loving way is trump and the GOP walking out of this election with 70% of the vote that is insane.

When a tree grows, it is soft and pliable. But when it's dry and hard, it dies.

Hardness and strength are death's companions. Flexibility and softness are the embodiment of life.

That which has become hard shall not triumph.

In early 2016 Clinton is faltering from a series of missteps and general malaise among the Democrats who aren't a part of Bernie's ever-growing movement. Faced with a significant likelihood of losing the nomination, Bill begins taking the stage at rallies in key states while Hillary takes a page from the GOP 2000 primary's book and begins to turn personal in the torrent of attack ads her PACs are hitting Bernie with. His personal life and Leftist convictions are viciously turned against him; attacks against him, ostensibly Republican in origin, highlight his previous relationships and children born to multiple mothers.

Ultimately, a good man running an honest campaign that resonates with people across the nation is ground down to dust and swept away by the financial oligarchy, and Hillary ascends to the nomination.

As the primary begins in earnest for the GOP it is still Trump leading in polls, though by a far smaller margin which continues to decline. The Donald has pushed his fellow crazies out of the race and has annihilated Fiorina as a potential candidate in spite of Fox's attempts to play queenmaker. Jeb! remains of the three candidates seen as serious contenders, but only barely. Through a continuous stream of stuttering, charmless Bush-isms, inability to handle going off-script even on softball questions, and blatant idiocy evoking the most shameful memories of W, Jeb! is rapidly losing support among both Republican voters and the immortal Lich Kings which rule the party. Pulling from Jeb!'s numbers are Walker and Rubio, each growing stronger as they pander to different portions of the Republican base; Marco to the mainstream American conservative audience, including ethnic minorities, with the backing of the GOP establishment, and Walker, appealing to the most disgusting scumfuck shitbags in the Republican base while being backed by the unearned fortunes of the grotesque Brothers Koch. As voting begins however it becomes clear that Marco holds stronger, broader appeal to the masses and he rapidly out-paces Walker, with Trump having left the race shortly before voting began while he was still battling for highest in the polls, claiming that "Through my leadership as a very successful business man who happens to be really, really wealthy by the way, and that's not an accident, you don't make a net worth of ten BILLION dollars without knowing how to deal, okay, I have personally brought forth the issues most important to the American people, the most important issue, ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION, and I have forced the Republican party, and I mean let's get real, this was at pretty significant cost to me, I didn't go begging to the Koch brothers for money, I paid my money, my own money, and I gave up business partnerships that were maybe a little small-time, didn't make me a whole lot of money, but it was still costing me, and I used my abilities as a businessman who knows how to make deals, and frankly as a very smart man, I leveraged the Republicans into being accountable to the American people on this war, this border war, and thanks to all of the Trump supporters we made our voices heard and we aren't done yet, we are going to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"

Out of fear of the Clinton machine, an unholy alliance is made: Marco has won the nomination through his charisma and establishment support and it is Walker that is chosen to stand beside him, marrying the malice and gibbering insanity of the new Right to the cold, cynical sociopathy of the good ol' GOP, now forever chained to the malformed creature it created.

Billions of dollars are spent by both sides of the general election in a bloody war of asinine identity politics. Clinton, despite finding the perfect focus-tested token VP and having the backing of Mammon, cannot find traction. No particular scandal sticks to her, the decades of poo poo thrown at her by Republicans has hardened into a non-stick shell, yet she flounders. Her opponent is a handsome young man of humble origins, part of the fastest-growing ethnic group in America, who can speak to the social conservatives and establishment types, and to keep the wingnut fringe from staying home or writing in Ron Paul he even struck a Faustian bargain with the babbling, soulless creatures of the void by bringing on an animated golem of the Koch's to be his running mate. Clinton is slowly discovering that it was not, in fact, black voters turning up for Obama based on race, or being backstabbed by certain elements of the DNC, or even not having a sufficiently powerful campaign machine that held her back in 2008. Rather, Democrats simply will not turn out for a transparently power-hungry sociopath with no real ideology, a political career built off backroom connections rather than merit, who's happy to fight dirty against better people, and who has the charisma of noted Purple Heart recipient and Herman Munster cosplayer John Kerry.

Rubio narrowly wins, the price of ammo drops to its lowest in a decade, and throughout his eight years in office people on the left hold their breath in anticipation of WW3.

It never comes. There's Iraq War 3: ISIS, but this time there are no kid gloves and while ISIS isn't completely destroyed it has been savaged so thoroughly it will never fully recover, while Iraq is left a shithole under the rule of a US-friendly Islamic dictator of some variety. Three Supreme Court justices have been appointed, abortion remains legal though ridiculously difficult bordering on impossible to access for many Americans, gays are still being married, and while weed isn't federally legal and there have been regional crackdowns by the Feds, enough states have legalized that it's expected to be legalized on a federal level along with other Drug War reforms under the next Democratic administration. Obamacare survives, though not unscathed, and the security state expands predictably while the economy avoids another depression, despite some major turmoil over energy concerns. Things are a little worse off in many regards than they were under Obama and the Supreme Court has both upheld Citizens United and expanded the rights of corporations, but some progress has been made through legislation pushed by a slightly strengthened leftist arm of the Democratic party. As lovely Republican presidential administrations go Rubio's has been fairly benign, following more or less the same economic agenda as his Democratic and Republican predecessors.

As the Rubio administration enters its twilight months, people are upset that America has taken yet another shuffling step toward its decline and eventual fall, and there are populist politicians on the left speaking up for their base just as Bernie and Warren do today; people are angry, but they have hope.

Hope, because the wingnuts lost. Under Rubio there was no abolition of Medicaid, no war started with Russia over their posturing in Eastern Europe, no war with Iran despite ongoing pressure from Israel, no Christian theocracy. Nothing more than a generically bad, but ultimately fixable, Republican presidency with control of the House. There was no apocalypse.

Breaths are released, shoulders are relaxed, optimistic plans for rebuilding are made.

They are fools. Rubio and his backers struck a deal eight years ago and while most have forgotten the implications by now, They have not. Their tendrils have already spread throughout the capitol, quiet things that lie hidden in shadows, whispering madness and promises into the ears of power.

The Kochs have come to Washington.

Bernie makes it through a few primaries but ultimately succumbs to Clinton, who has tacked slightly left. The Kochs unleash everything they've got and Hillary, assuming Dems will support her regardless, tacks back to the right. Dems stay home, Walker wins.

If I'm honest, this is my prediction, though I'm gonna throw a wildcard in there in place of Walker because I'm not ready to make a prediction on who will win the Republican nomination yet. It won't be Bush, Trump, Kasich, Huckabee, Christie, or Paul, and probably not anyone at the kid's table debate either, no matter how badly Fox News wants a Fiorina surge.

I mostly agree with this, except that I think out of the GOP candidates you mentioned, Kasich does has an outside chance to win the nomination, if the stars align just right; and also that, depending on who winds up as the GOP candidate, I don't think it's a given at all that Hillary will go on to lose the general, in spite of all her weaknesses. All of which taken together is a little bit scary though because out of the GOP field Kasich seems to me the by far strongest contender for the general :ohdear:

I think Kasich could actually beat Clinton, if they got their respective party noms. I'll concede that Walker may not get the nomination. If that's the case, Rubio will have managed to pull a sizable chuck of the socially-conservative Hispanic vote.

Kasich can't offer the red meat that primary voters need. Jeb! is dead in the water (despite his war chest), Christie is angling for Attorney General, Cruz is unlikeable, Trump is a buffoon, and Fiorina has 0 experience. The rest of the field aren't even worth mentioning.

Ramrod Hotshot
May 30, 2003

Ted Cruz wins Iowa, Jeb! narrowly wins New Hampshire and then South Carolina by much more, mostly because of name recognition in a crowded field. The primary effectively ends there.

After that, the election is pretty much a rerun of 2012, except with more apathy from voters in both parties towards their candidates. Turnout is the lowest it's been in a while, but Clinton wins.

Yep, basically what Gregoriev said. Kasich could beat Clinton, but almost certainly won't get the nomination. The best chance he has is to beat out Jeb! at being the Romney this time around: the comparatively reasonable one who's left standing after everyone else flames out and/or slinks off in obscurity. I think it's more likely he'll end up a less likable Huntsman, though.

I should've also added Cruz to my list of candidates who won't get the Republican nomination. It's between Bush, Rubio, and Walker, I'd bet, though Kasich could rise up to replace Bush if he falls too far thanks to being generally dopey and ineffective at campaigning.

Clinton could realistically lose in the general. It would take a strong Republican campaign and a weak Democratic one, but it could happen. Clinton's campaign has been weak so far, but it's too early to make any claims about how she'd do in the general.
