Windows 10 is a consumer OS, with a primary use case as a gaming device and isn’t suitable for mission critical or medial tech.

windows 10 is fragile and untested as-is, I wouldn't use those third party scripts like shutup10 to make it even worse

Geemer posted:I just wish these loving graphics designers could make up their minds on what icon style they want. By the time everyone starts (begrudgingly) adopting the new style, they're already outdated and being replaced. lol I doubt it's the graphic designers making the decisions. it's more like the boring, soul-sucking MS higher ups in marketing/relations, who meticulously track the public's perception pendulum of flat design VS 3d and other poo poo that drains the life out of the final product.

I think they mean that 1909 is now out of testing phase and should be considered fairly stable.

Mr Shiny Pants posted:For me the pinnacle of UI design was IOS before the flatness craze. The thing that speaks volumes about how stupid the whole UI stuff has become is pasting a telephone number in the IOS dialer. You have no clue that there is a text input field or that you can paste something in. It is just totally stupid. Speaking of speaking volumes, it took them five years to "solve" the volume indicator not being in the way of content in iOS, when lo and behold iOS 6 and below had it solved by the volume adjustment overlay and icon just being "transparent" and not a giant full screen frosted glass nightmare that you couldn't see through.

Oh yeah, I joke that the latest release of Windows 10 is still in beta testing, but seriously, don't install it until right around the time the next release comes out if you value stability and important things that involve "storage" that tend to get wiped out in Windows 10 upgrades. Wait until they've worked out the issues before jumping on. Unless you're brave and/or the machine is just a gaming machine or something.

Good point, I mean uppdating Linux through major releases has always been a crapshoot: it's easy to break something critical and wind up in a command prompt with no desktop environment. Windows updates wipe data and settings regularly which is arguably worse 'cause you can probably fix up your Ubuntu install somehow, but recovering data from an SSD or an encrypted drive might be a lot more damaging.

Windows 10 was actually a shitshow for a good chunk of time in my experience. Anyone remember the early days when the start menu just didn't open when clicking start? Now it's just slow, but wow that was annoying.
