These are all pretty goofy at best but the infinite regression mirror thing, if that's what this is, is kind of neat and I like it.

It seems like a show focused on menial laborers in star trek world would have to better address why menial laborers even exist in star trek world, which as far as I know is not something that's been substantively answered.

What do you do with people who have the dumb but still buy into the party line of 'working to improve ourselves' despite having no useful skills or interesting talents?

Some people really really really want to do starfleet stuff, but can't hack starfleet academy. Or engineering school. Or medical technician school. Or barber college. They get to do a tour of duty as a barrel stacker . . . in space!
Seems more likely that someone in that position would just write terrible poetry or other such self-actualization stuff, since they don't have to worry about the issues of getting paid.

Plus it would probably make the ship a lot less maneuverable, if it's heavy.

and yea if if somehow people werent full of implants and directly interfaced w/ the ship you still wouldnt ever need more than a dozen people on the ship, everything can be automatic. star trek is not to be seriously thought about as anything other than a half-thought out backdrop to stories of ethics and character

the tech stuff is basically the craziest poo poo people could come up with 50s science fiction ideas
There's always going to be a few weird people who don't go with the crowd.

Which is why crazy luddites will inherit humanity.

You just set up a vacuum chamber with something falling in it and transport it to the top every time it's about to hit the bottom. It will just keep accelerating until you've got it going a significant fraction of the speed of light and then instead of teleporting it to the top of the chamber you teleport it to outside, aimed at someone you don't like.
Only works if it doesn't take additional energy to teleport something out of a gravity well.
