ahahaha this is the best loving thing. :respek:

I saw this thread and thought it was about your first century wagon, because I didn't even know you had two yet. Took like half a dozen posts to realize this was in fact a newly procured beater wagon.

Now I don't feel quite as bad about owning three comanches :haw:

Hahaha yeah that is an old 900MHz AMPS cellular phone. Funny story, we found one of those under the passenger seat of my GF's Roadmaster last week when we installed the junkyard seats I got for it. Apparently analog cellphones were somewhat of A Thing in older Buicks.

Can't help you on the belt situation or bolt, but the AC shop is bending you the gently caress over. R12 is actually getting cheaper these days because most of the old shitboxes that need R12 are off the road so demand is back down, I don't believe it'd cost that much, period. I found a guy selling 48oz of R12 new-in-can on ebay for $115, in fact, which is a far cry from $400. Pretty sure that's more than your car needs...

The other option is to DIY it, you can buy the compressor, gauge set, cap tap, all the new AC parts, R12 (or R152a, or air duster) and other stuff for far less than 1500 and then just follow the instructions in Motronic's AC thread and come out way ahead, then fix the AC on all your other cars... and friends cars... and family's cars... for super cheap. I've got all my AC tools now, and I've fixed 3 or 4 of the family vehicles and am far far ahead of even paying the $150 recharge cost per vehicle at the local quicklube.

Assume 25mm (it's actually 25.4 but who cares) for every inch of length the engine stand arms have to them where the bolts go through. Everyone, including me, forgets that those stupid arms are longer than the thickness of the BH flange that the engine normally bolts to. Then add like an inch for thread engagement in the block, and buy a 25-pack of lovely galvy 1/2" washers from home depot to make up the slack if the bolts bottom out before they are tight.

I can't remember how long a bolt we used when we put the 3.0L Vulcan V6 on the engine stand for my dad's truck but ~100mm sounds about right. Maybe longer.

7/8 NPT? :wtf: Unless GM really outdid themselves, there's no such thing, but 1/2" NPT seems to have an OD of 0.84", which is pretty close, so I'm betting it's actually 1/2" NPT?

Pipe thread sizes are loving wack, yo. There's a whole huge story about why the dimensions are the way they are (the ID, OD, tap drill diameter, and major diameter are all different, and none of them are equal or even close to the trade size.)

Yeah, someone over at a-body.net said pretty much the same thing, so I'm just gonna cut the pipe off about 1.5 inches long on the LX9 and join the two with some hose.

Well, fortunately, if you actually wanted to tap it to 1/2-NPT, that's probably the most common NPT tap in existence. You can probably get a tap and the proper drill to use for single-digit prices at your local hardware store, in fact.

Splicing a couple pipes with a hose is a lot more risk free though.

My GF (who loves all wagons, but especially woodside ones and especially buick woodside ones) highly approves of your insanity. She has a 1993 Buick Roadmaster wagon (L05 under the hood, not an LT1, sadly) that I am slowly catching up on maintenance.

We've seen a number of Century wagons around the area, including a maroon woodside one that looked like a miniature version of hers. Didn't have any paper to write a "please call us if you ever want to sell" note, sadly, and it was gone when we got out of the store.

I believe those are Delphi Metri-Pack 150 Sealed series connectors, but not entirely certain. You could always just shotgun an order of "1 of each" for that entire series (after comparing to photos in the catalog) for that many pins with all keyings, find which one plugs into the EGR valve that will bolt to your engine, and then depin the old shell on the harness and push it all into the new shell. They're only like a buck or so each on mouser.com once you have the right part numbers.

Can you take a pic of the CTS wiring? There's a good chance I know exactly what connector it is, 2 and 3 wire ones I've seen most of the ones available. You can probably make your own extender pretty easily for under ten bucks in materials.

It looks to me like you could (if you had the required equipment and experience) make a hybrid mount from 1/4" steel plate pieces that would bolt to the new engine, old compressor, and old chassis mounts. The 3 bolt holes from the new mount for the new engine don't look like they have a stupid overlap with any of the bolt holes for the old compressor, basically.

Left: Packard/Delphi Metripack 150 series sealed
Right: Packard/Delphi Weatherpack

The left connector is far superior. Weatherpacks were great in the 70s/80s but we have better things now. So in a way you are upgrading by necessity.

I love how you are dedicated enough to figure out GM legos on a car that no one else has done this on. That AC compressor is some real wizardry, has anyone else in the Century community figured that out yet?

You can probably rebuild those alternators for peanuts (if either will fit into your sorcery swap), most of the time they just need a replacement bearing, brush pack, slipring, rectifier pack, or regulator. The number of times I bought a new alternator for $130 at the parts store when all I needed was a $25 regulator or $7 terminal block off ASPWholesale saddens me.

Hell, if you sell it on ebay or swap it for one you can use or sell it and use the money to buy one you can use (or something else, up to you) it certainly won't hurt my feelings. I sent it to you because I felt like it and figured you would at least have a chance of using it, otherwise I was going to end up trying to sell it to broke ricer idiots at swapmeets for the next year or with it wasting space in my spare bedroom because I'm never going to get around to using it.

Most if not all connectors containing airbag squib wiring have a shorting bar on a spring that automatically shunts the terminals together when the mating harness is unplugged. You guys are overthinking this.

I've heard that some VAG ACMs will fire a squib as soon as it's plugged in if there's power to the ACM at the time, however. I cannot swear this is true.

Also, some semi standardized color codes:
Yellow connectors and harness looms are almost always airbag related.
Orange are high voltage for electric and hybrid vehicles.
Green connectors are usually but not always some sort of diagnostic connector.

Looks like a longblock is 3k on rockauto. Hopefully you can find a good one in the picknpull, but don't really count on it... those 3.7s are famous for exploding. Usually they drop a valve seat and turn the whole rotating assembly into confetti, from what I've seen. It's too bad you can't use anything earlier than 07 (according to RA anyways) as a donor because at least crappy beater Jeep Liberties are everywhere and no one would ever cry about sacrificing one for its engine.

That was my guess too. The easy way to tell which reluctor wheel it has is to count the connectors on the ECU in the donor and recipient. 3? You need a 3 plug donor. 4? 4 plug donor. At least according to the best info available last time I looked into it.

I can't vouch for the seller or quality but this kind of setup works wonders on those stupid threaded on fan clutches, which is what you're up against I assume. https://www.amazon.com/Pneumatic-Clutch-LIS43430-Industrial-Products/dp/B08BKV7LLL/

Usually one rip on the air chisel pops it free and it comes off by hand after that.

You could get crafty and build the same thing yourself of course if you don't mind welding some junk to your tools.

I used the poor man's method on mine in the junkyard, you put a box wrench of the right size on it, make sure the belt is tight, then get angry and whack the far end of the wrench solidly with a hammer. May need to balance another wrench on it through the fan and hold the butt end up with one hand while hammering the middle of the second wrench if there's no clearance to hit the first one directly.

I hate those fans, mostly because I haven't bought the pneumatic tool for them myself yet, just seen how easily friends get them off with it.

Triple check the crank and cam reluctor wheel patterns before you really button that thing up... They are different year over year and I've got a really bad feeling about this now that you said it's a newer block. Might just be mix n match parts from the builder but you don't want to do this twice I bet.
