Unfortunately, when whole swaths of territory are essentially outside of government control ("peace zones" in Venezuela, farc territory in Colombia, several states in Mexico, ect) I think the term "failed state" is in vogue for this arrangement. Collapsed would be another way of saying it.

I'm from Miami and currently live in a part of broward (next county over) named Weston which is colloquially known as "westonzuela". I know alot of Venezuelans. They're just as good or bad as any group really, some real assholes, some really nice people. Honestly, I find Colombians more annoying than Venezuelans but that might be because my in laws are Colombian.

Edit: I like the way you guys fill arepas with lots of stuff though

Messing around with various IPTV lists, I've found TV Venezuela and am watching my first Con El Mazo Dando. This would be hilarious if it wasn't such a horrifying example of how regimes use the media to intimidate and control people. Cabello is directly telling Diego Arria that if he ever steps foot in Venezuela he will be arrested. And now he appears to be saying the same about maria corina who I guess he's calling "maria violencia". Now he's talking about zombie movies and how she sounds like a zombie. Amazing.

Those who are help and encourage a bad act (or are complacent) are just as guilty ie this Igelsias publicly condemning the arrest of Lopez but being a friend and supporter (and patron) of the Venezuelan regime does not absolve him of guilt.

What in the gently caress is going on with this story of the plane going down and PDVSA and FARC. There's too many weird details and far too many dark corners in that narrative which will let all kinds of conspiracy theories flourish.

Quick question: Has Globovision been turned over to el oficialismo or is still worth watching? I was watching their youtube stream the other day and they were talking about movies and fashion shows and poo poo and then showed some very nice looking official government function and it reminded me of the time I found a stream of Libyan state TV during the worst of the civil war/uprising and it was some poo poo about water management or something. In contrast, NTN24 is pretty much wall to wall coverage of what a loving disaster is going on and lots of reporting of Venezuelan refugees in Colombia.

I managed to get a stream of Telesur last night, holy poo poo.

Probably the most interesting aspect of their insane propaganda is that they kept on referring to the right wing and the industrial elites and the AN as "the people who ACTUALLY run this country" in a pejorative sense. As if the PSUV is the plucky underdog against the great big powers that be that are still controlling Venezuela. It's so completely bonkers, I can't believe what lack of shame it takes to stand in front of a camera and say that.

Totally not important but I thought i'd ask: How realistic is it to expect a safe and sure shipping of something like records (LPs) from Venezuela to the US? I'm talking to a guy in Venezuela on Discogs to get some records but I'm not very confident at all that they'll get here or in one piece.

Also if any venegoons got records they want to part with, I'm all ears.

If they are being sent through private delivery then there's a good chance you'll get them. If it's regular mail then you're getting scammed because no one would use that in Venezuela and not expect it to be stolen.

What kind of LPs are you interested in? My mom was about as obsessed with music as I am and we have a fuckton of vinyls at home, plus a neighbor was a musician and radio host and he collected thousands of them. He's dead now sadly but I'm sure his bro would maybe part with them. I'll mention it to them!

Todo lo que es musica tropical caribeņa. Cuba, Puerto Rico, Rep. Dom., Venezuela, ect..

Cabello possibly threatening Rubio's life is probably just dumb bravado, I don't think it needs to be taken seriously at all and holding it up as a possible causus belli is ridiculous.

Cryptos are by definition (at least in the Bitcoin model) by definition deflationary. There is a set amount that can be mined, and it gets increasingly harder to mine as you approach the end limit. Also "pegging" a crypto to a fixed asset like gold or diamond is dumb bullshit that no actual crypto users buy into.

This is to say nothing of the fact that no crypto matters until people actually get an incentive to mine it (which is actually how transactions are confirmed) meaning no transaction can be made until there is a network of miners confirming the transaction.

I'm gonna go ahead and say this is a bad idea.

The American "establishment" absolutely does not support intervention in Venezuela or Nicaragua. Most Americans don't even know whats going on and most people who do would never support that.

My guess is that this guy heard people on NPR say that Venezuela is a disaster which in his mind = supports regime change intervention.

1. Maduro is an illegitimate dictator who has usurped the constitutional order

2. The protests in the streets and the opposition in the AN are actual legitimate protest movements seeking to restore self-determination to the Venezuelan people

3. The US and Bolsonaro are horrible fascists whose intervention is vehemently opposed to

None of these positions is mutually exclusive

I mean I think its important to watch the video and see venezuelans who presumably still support the PSUV manifesting themselves on camera, no problem with that, but yes Max Blumenthal has made his bones these last couple of years by being correctly skeptical of all western media while concurrently being a credulous shithead to awful people like direct interviews with Daniel Ortega and basically buying every PSUV talking point at face value.
