Actually it was the stick gunpowder that causes them to jam because they retained moisture in the humid climate.

I heard that on the history channel.

That and because McNamara thought saving $1.50 a rifle by not chroming the internals and issuing cleaning kits was a good deal.

Mechanically the AK-47 has more in common with the M1 Garand. :911:

Well if it's good enough for the cops.

As the police closed in, the gunman drew his .45-caliber handgun, and two officers opened fire, discharging 16 shots in all. Ten people were hit: the gunman, who was killed, and nine pedestrians caught in the hail and ricochet of police bullets.

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg described the shooting in August 2012 as an appropriate, heroic response by the officers

What percentage of black market guns are stolen during home robberies, anyway? Since this thread is just the latest iteration of a loop that has basically always existed, I assume someone just knows off the top of their head.

I guess more in general, what's the primary way in which legal and registered handguns get into someone's car trunk about to be sold for $50?

I recall reading a Department of Corrections survey from the 90s where the main responses were about evenly divided up between illegal means (theft, street purchases, etc), and getting it from friends/family. "Other" purchases such as gun shows, pawn shops, legal purchases, were 10-15% as I recall.

I want to say it included statistics before and after NICS was set up and that legal purchases dropped to a couple percent after it was deployed, but I can't be sure and I can't find the survey.
