loving coworker installed a 1.2kW inverter on Friday, couldn't get the battery terminals on in time, "Hey Tommychu can you finish this on the weekend? Truck's rolling Monday morning"
So I get all my poo poo done, then have a look at this thing. He cut up a set of cheap, used 0-gauge booster cables (you know, the ones with the insulation that crumbles if you look at it funny), going through a hole that a beaver seems to have gnawed through the floor, no grommet, zero circuit protection, not even a length of hose strapped to the cable.
Texted him. He's done half a dozen like that, it's fine man just put the terminals on.
Somehow I get the feeling I'm going to be fixing a whole bunch of inverter installations in the near future.

Fuuuck. Rear knock sensor in beatertruck ('00 GMC 4.8) is not removable- the hex just went crunch and started spinning. There's too much mud and crap around to safely pull the valley pan, there's not really enough room to get any fun extraction tools in there, Google says I have to hammer and chisel it out fuel-sender-lock-ring-style but I'm not sure the stud is going to take much of that. Anyone know a trick for these?

With another look at the position of this thing there's no fuckin' way I can drill it straight (even if it broke with something resembling a flat face, which it didn't) so off to the shop it goes.

what exactly it did to the car while in this mode.

Likely the same as the Americans (Detroit, Cat and Cummins) did a while back-with the same result, they got caught. Only difference is that it was three different companies conspiring together. They cut the fuel rate and bump the EGR map up a few points when it sees whatever sequence of inputs the testing entail. Neuters the engine and makes spectacular emissions numbers.

Yeah Bing/HERE sucks (oh you want to get to this business? Ok I'll take you to the location that was demolished in 2010, or take you to vaguely where you need to be and then not tell you the actual address so you can find it). But the you're speeding chime is handy.
IE also blows, if it runs into a page with a script it doesn't like it'll make the phone entirely unresponsive and after you pull the battery and reboot as soon as you open it again it goes right back to the last viewed page and chokes on it again. I've also managed to get a mild malware infection with it in the form of a MyFreeShoppingBuddy overlay.
Design wise my main issue is a lack of IP5x-rated hardware, it isn't much fun taking the phone apart weekly to clean the iron filings and dust out.
Other than all that it's a great platform and I strongly prefer it to my old galaxy rugby.

I bought these. I know people say that the bus needs "C"-rated 8-ply tires, but the only ones I can find that fit are trailer tires with lovely tread patterns. I already have 205/75-14 car tires on there, and these are a real, non-chinesium brand, and whitewalls.

C is 6 ply.
If you don't plan on loading it past 6000 lbs total vehicle weight you're fine, that tire is rated to 1500lb/corner.
e: plus, if you had it loaded that heavily I don't think it would be able to get up to the kind of speeds you'd also need to be doing to do damage. Whatever graybeards keep flipping the hell out saying you must use 6ply clearly have no idea how load/speed tables work, or that tire technology has advanced a bit since the '60s.

Whoops, my bad on the ply thing.

All of the VW bus forums (well, TheSamba and it's mighty crowd of zombie followers) say that the bus needs special stiff sidewall tires because of how tall it is and how that can load the sidewalls during cornering. I understand that, a taller vehicle means more weight swinging side-to-side on the suspension, which can mean greater loading on a corner tire. But, my bus isn't a camper, and is 3300 pounds dressed. I used the same tires on my Olds Delta 88, which shows 4300 pounds curb weight. Also, the bus is slower and has manual steering, so I'm hoping I won't be taking corners too fast. And I swear the only "185R14C" tires I can find, with any combination or variation of the rating syntax, are either trailer tires, or $300 apiece vintage classic special bullshit tires.

That and I drove on these 2004 dryrotted Chinesium tires for 1400 miles two months ago, I feel pretty safe :v:

Right, I forgot that that was the concern and not the actual load rating. Either way, you're fine.
