I don't think there's any shame in using a walkthrough to get around the keycard system. MG2's keycards are actually way better than MG1's because you get combo cards. MG1 has trolly level 1 doors in the level 5 or 6 area where you're in a gas room and can only either use the gas mask or a keycard :suicide:

edit: what I meant by hand holding is you get pretty familiar with the continue screen on the older games, but that's just part of getting through them!

It's the only game I never got around to play. Did it really have ghosts in it?

I just beat the Chrysalis on my first try. How embarrassingly simple. I bet I'd feel like a real fool if I had trouble with that.

i feel like if some indie game came out today with graphics and sound and music of this level and said they were trying to be like a ps1 game, everyone would laugh at it being too good for ps1

mgs1 playstation looks like fuckin' poo poo but you get used to it. I'd be interested to see what it looks like on a PC emulator without the weird grain filter you see over top of the PSN version.

I finished MGS4 recently. Question concerning it and Metal Gear 2: Why didn't Snake react at all when Dr. Madnar was mentioned? I rocketed that traitorous scientist in the back in Metal Gear 2 with the Nikita as Solid Snake so I figured he would remember that like 14 years later. gently caress.

I feel like there's potential for indie games to use this low resolution art style and make it look appealing, like how pixel art has been a quick go to for 2d stuff.

the art design is super good considering that it's still in a semi-realistic setting

i like that they picked the blockiest real world guns possible so they could make them realistic with ps1 polygons

Production photos from the studio at the time are fascinating. Shadow Moses island was first designed with Lego blocks and then they would film the sets in different angles to figure out where to put guards so a player could properly see and play around them

much like pixel art it's easier to poo poo out a "low poly" thing than it is to actually make something that could have existed on an actual 90s console

I don't think you have to hold a button but it only works in certain situations. I know this because I tried on every cut scene with a woman because I'm lonely
