Short thoughts are as follows. 1. The anime deciding to go with the school closing thing is lame, especially considering it takes place in a school that just fuckin' opened at the start of the anime. 2. I thought having less members would mean more time to flesh them out individually, but Ren and Chisato are some of the most uninteresting characters in the Love Live series. Chisato is if you distilled You and Kotori into the supporting (read: emotionally dependent) childhood friend essences and then added a love of circles, and Ren is Eri/Dia done worse, in that she's pretty much a completely different character after joining, whereas Eli and Dia retain their original personalities and just change their minds. At least Kuku and Heanna are great, and Kanon is set apart from Chika/Honoka. 3. The anime just doesn't hit the emotional points for me. I guess a part of it has to do with me being jaded after years of watching idol anime, but stuff like the leadup to the stage felt like a less impactful version of the Snow Halation episode in Love Live!, and them losing doesn't really hit like the whole 0 votes debacle from Love Live! Sunshine!! Honestly, Sunshine did the whole "the school idol game is completely on a different level now" better than Superstar ever did. 4. Sunny Passion is so meh. They don't have the charisma of A-RISE, or the impact that Saint Snow did as a rival group. Going up to the point above about the game being changed, Saint Snow had an impressive performance from a viewer standpoint and even they weren't among the top groups at the first competition we see them in. 5. Most of the songs don't really appeal to me, and I don't remember anything beyond Nonfiction. Though to be fair, that might be due to the time spent watching the anime. 6. In short, visually impressive compared to previous chapters in the series but without the actual content.
