*Unless you are in Arizona, Montana, Louisiana, Iowa or Washington When the UIGEA passed in 2006, online poker and casino gaming was doomed. However, an exception for wagering "games of skill" such as fantasy sports would soon come to create a multi-billion dollar industry all with the partnerships of the same leagues who have fought tooth and nail for decades to stop sports gambling. With many of these sites, mainly DraftKings and FanDuel being advertised like crazy now this season what better time than to throw $20 onto one of these site and have some fun with it, if you put in some time grind out a few bucks a week or my personal favorite; blindly put a lineup into one of the bigger tournaments and: How it works Players are given dollar amount values and you are given a salary cap from which to build a lineup with. The main game types are: Tournaments-Large field event such as the Sunday Million which usually have a guaranteed prize pool (GPP) but top heavy payouts Cash Games-All winners get the same payout, typically slightly less than their buy (50/50 which pays the top half), their buyin (double up which pay around 45%) and multipliers (Top 3rd win 3x the buy in, etc.) Heads up-You play one other person in a winner take all. Without getting too in depth the basic idea is to build lineups which have a high ceiling for GPPs and a low floor for 50/50. Where to play Fanduel - Referral link because I gots to get paid https://www.fanduel.com/?invitedby=bfreeman&cnl=da -The larger and older of the two main sites. Players can be swapped until their game starts even if the contest has already begun. That being said he has a higher probability of putting up a total dud than, say Mark Ingram or Lamar Miller, which is why he might not be ideal for cash games. I would have to agree that it would be Davante and then Tyrod being the most highly owned by a bit. I actually think Beckham will be the third highest because Cowboys-Giants has shootout written all over it and the savings from Tyrod/Adams. Also people seem to be more in love with him than Julio (who im fading actually) or Dez who i think will have the best of the prestige wideouts this weekend.

I prefer cash games myself but spray and pray is pretty much the only way to go to if I were trying to 'grind' GPPs. By dint of sheer numbers you've got pretty much all of the hits but I feel like you should try to find ways to fit in Steve Smith or Kamar Aiken in a few lineups since they'll be target monsters (especially Smith) in one the likely higher scoring games of the weekend.

But is there any added advantage/disadvantage to more limited games like the night games or just early games etc? Having less games to choose leads to scores being lot closer together since everyone will be picking from a smaller pool of players. Therefore there's a higher chance that one of your players having a bad game will cause you to miss out on cashing. Conversely if you're able to pick out whichever 3rd string rb can vulture a td then you' can move up higher so it's a tradeoff. Comes down to preference really but playing with a smaller slate is higher variance and something you might want to avoid as a newer player.

RE Legality of DFS I would agree with the sentiment that, at least as a legal activity, it is here to stay. Even after poker was effectively "outlawed" in October 2006 it still existed in a big way until April 2011. And after some the really shady poo poo that many sites (namely Full Tilt engaged in) I'm kind of glad that someone did something. Also, online poker and casino gaming had powerful enemies from the start like Sheldon Adelson and even though pretty much all of them except Adelson have come around all the large brick and mortar gaming operators like MGM, Caesars and Boyd Gaming while many of the sports leagues are forming dfs parternships, and Adam Silver has straight come out in favor of legalized gaming. Moving onto this week I decided to burn one of the my Millionaire maker tickets and made this QB: Carson Palmer $6,600 RB: David Johnson $4,000, Danny Woodhead $4,400 WR: Julian Edelman $7,000, Larry Fitz $5,800; Jarvis Landry $6,400 TE: Travis Kelce $5,000 Flex: Randall Cobb $7,300 DEF: Seahawks $3,400

Bagels for me this week apparently someone who works at Draftkings used knowledge of ownership percentages to win 350K on Fanduel last week. Just to clarify the employee of Draftkings who won on Fanduel is written content manager Ethan Haskell who was responsible for posting the 'error' ownership pecentages. When talking about allowing employees of one site to play on another you would hope there would be some segregation between those involved in operations and something user facing like website content. Assuming everything was on the level i wouldn't worry about having some lineups in a contest Ethan happened to be entered in anymore than i would worry about playing a Poker pro on a website they sponsor or (maybe more accurately) like a community manager for Activision in Call of Duty. The fact that he posted something that is not supposed to be known to anyone other than the game operators, even if accidentally, reveals really poor control over such in one of the largest sites at best and something really shady at worst. EDIT: VVVV I agree that's it not as bad as paying people to outright throw games but having inside information of ownership percentages allows you to tweak lineups when you can in such a way that you gain an advantage. And when we're talking about changing hundreds of tournament lineups at a time and gaining even thousandths of percentage points of EV it really seems like inside information to me. And now New York Times is on the story; pack it in boys. Also, there's a "temporary" ban for DK and FD employees playing on any dfs sites. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/06/sports/fanduel-draftkings-fantasy-employees-bet-rivals.html?_r=0 The SituAsian fucked around with this message at 01:02 on Oct 6, 2015 |

The extra note at the end mentioning sports books and casinos is just warning them to disassociate with the unregulated DFS companies unless/until FD/DK get gaming approvals. Pretty much this. Basically any NGCB (Nevada Gaming Control Board) unregulated DFS site-which is of course all of them right now-can effectively no longer legally operate in Nevada. Of course I've heard there ways to get around this for residents of the the other states where dfs is illegal but between this and NY and Federal investigation in the wake of #DKleak it's safe to say that the environment is going to get a lot more challenging if and before it ever gets easier.

One of the interesting things about basketball is there is a dearth of information. There are no FootballGuys or 4for4 for basketball, so if you're into doing analysis on your own you can really give yourself a leg up on the general public. The one thing that is a bit more stressful is that basketball is a true daily sport, which requires a lot more time and research if you don't have most of your process automated. As primarily a cash game player I actually prefer basketball to football. A bad game from a player wont necessarily totally wipe you out since floors tend to be higher. For instance Anthony Davis had a terrible game opening night but still had around 30 points on Draftkings. Granted that's falling way short of the value you would want to be at to cash in cash games (around 5.5x so 275 points, while the magic number for gpps tends to be 300 points.) But its not a total blowout like your super stud wide receiver getting less than 10 points. Also the fact that its a way less popular game means its easy to gave an edge of you do any research at all. Of course i would imagine this falls off when football season ends and most of the "recreational" players dont touch their dfs accounts.

I don't know how many lineups you have at once but I usually do around 24 quarter lineups and 2-4 double up lineups a week and I had no problems swapping out lynch for rawls and shifting much more heavy to Amendola in the flex to afford hopkins and jones. Agreed that draftkings is, in my opinion a superior experience than fanduel for all those reasons but i have noticed they have been pricing very aggressively compared to what I remember last year. Of course there still is value but the even last year i feel like, for example, it would have taken like half a season of Rondo playing like he is for his price to jump from like 6000 to 9000. Another point in draftkings favor is the -.5 point per turnover which makes someone like Mudiay or D'angelo Russell a more viable play. Then again you can just always play PG 13 and win all the money all time because boy is a grown rear end man. While I feel DFS was always destined to die down as a result of fatigue from mainly overexposure but also players not having as much disposable income during the poker boom days it really feels like #DKleak, Ethan Haskell and the resulting scrutiny is really what's killed it, at least for now. Since NFL Week 1 we've had Nevada and New York players banned from playing and just today the attorney general of Illinois states that DFS is illegal under state law. Her decision doesn't look like it's going to lead to sites immediately withdrawing as they did in New York and Nevada but it's just indicatative of the environment. To add my own personal anecdote to this in week 1 a bunch of people at work started up a weekly $5 draftkings game. It eventually grew to about 20 out of ~200 people in the office (with a few friends/relatives), within 4 weeks of DKleak like half of the people dropped out and I'm pretty sure it's dead now. From a libertarian perspective-not crazy kill you're parents Ron Paul style, more just the government should stay out of personal business leanings-I definitely prefer that dfs remain strictly speaking legal but I would much rather it is regulated than as it was before. It would probably never be a fraction what it was at it's peak, however brief that was, but I would much rather have a safe small game than a huge rigged one.
