My last Prince thread fell into the archive. So far Tidal has his new album, that acoustic video he teased on the Yahoo webcast for Art Official Age, a Purple Pick Of The Week featuring "New tracks, exclusives, and rarities from the Vault curated personally by Prince" and a number of rare out-of-print NPG Music Club albums like C-Note, Xpectation, The Slaughterhouse, The Chocolate Invasion and One Nite Alone. (current missing albums are: Lovesexy, The Black Album, The Gold Experience, Chaos & Disorder, Crystal Ball, I give it a month before he's bored of it and this thread is in the archive. But still I'm excited to see if anything unreleased pops up. Or if he's just going to recycle stuff from the old NPG Ahdio Show. ps. the deluxe version of purple rain is never coming out. same with hit n run vol 2. and 20ten deluxe. and everything else on this list http://www.princevault.com/index.php/Albums:_Unreleased Call Me Charlie fucked around with this message at 23:21 on Sep 8, 2015 |

I went to night 3 of his International Dance Party at Paisley Park tonight. They played the whole new album at midnight and it loving rocks. Also took a tour of the studios, where I sat in his chair at the mixer, and was inches away from his guitars and the purple rain bike. Also one of the chicks from 3rdeyegirl was in the studio playing, as well as a guy who's name I forget who's been collaborating with him since the Revolution days. It was pretty loving cool. E: Also they were selling shirts with Hit n Run Vol 2 on them. What's happened to make it not come out?

They also played an unfinished song from another upcoming album (or something that will sit in the vault forever, who knows) while in his private studio. And a bunch of single instrument stems from the first track of his new album. E: Oh and the lyrics sheet for the unfinished song was sitting in the mixer. It was written out like all his song titles. U for you and 2 for to and such. Which is perfect. Vince MechMahon fucked around with this message at 19:29 on Sep 7, 2015 |

N.E.W.S was added today. I finally signed up for a trial of Tidal today and I've been enjoying myself. Didn't have the highest hopes for HITNRUN Vol 1 since I already heard most of the tracks but Like A Mack was worth the price of admission and FALLINLOVE2NITE is about a million times better without Zooey Deschanel's bland vocals all over it.

All I want is an expanded Purple Rain and a remastered Sign O The Times. My CD copy sounds so lovely. New album: ehhhhh. I was more excited about all those remixes of Gett Off that were uploaded to Tidal the other day.

On my first listen of Hit N Run all I could think was "what the gently caress did I just buy", but I am solidly digging it on repeat listens. X's Face, Like a Mack, June, and 1000 X's and O's are the standouts. It's good to hear Prince being weirdly experimental again, and there's some serious flashes of funk and rock brilliance scattered through the EDM, on which your tolerance of will be crucial. All in all, a pretty exciting album, even if it takes a bit to get going. As per tradition, some are cringeworthy, some are great.

Free Urself (the song, not the rumored album) is up on Tidal. It's fantastic. Quirky classic sounding Prince. I hope there's an Xtended version in the vault somewhere.

On first listen, "ROCKNROLL LOVEAFFAIR" is a re-recorded version of the single from a few years back. At least the horns are slightly different.

New intro. Less harsh guitars. New vocal dubs. (And am I crazy or is Baltimore a new mashup of the original version and the strings version he released on Tidal? Or a new drum track on top of what was already there?) Call Me Charlie fucked around with this message at 01:45 on Dec 13, 2015 |

Ha. Prince did an interview with Ebony and tried to claim afterwards that it was all off the record. quote:Prince asked me to keep some secrets. I may still have a few, truth be told. This past summer, a call went out to a few music journalists to visit the purple rock, Paisley Park Studios in Minneapolis. Joshua Welton, 25, had a few words to share about producing his first Prince project, Hit N Run. The operative word being “few.” After 10 minutes of talk, Prince himself entered Studio A and took over the conversation for two enlightening hours, discussing everything from Jay Z’s Tidal streaming service to the origins behind “Purple Rain” and “The Beautiful Ones,” and the reformation of The Time. Bob Seger, Esperanza Spalding, Kendrick Lamar and beyond. I think it's interesting how Stare, Xtraloveable, Screwdriver and Big City weren't on that early version of Vol 2. That and Prince not knowing how Groovy Potential was originally released.

The last time I saw him, everyone entering the venue got to just head down to the closest seats because the venue was like half empty.

Apparently all Aus shows have sold out. Not sure if that includes the $950 seats where you're slightly closer to the stage, get a special tshirt, and have early access to the merch table.

I went to the Oracle Arena show on the 4th, it was incredible. Purple Music was played, as was Dirty Mind, Thieves in the Temple, Venus De Milo, and The Beautiful Ones in full. Here's a full setlist http://www.princevault.com/index.php/04_March_2016 They also handed out Hit N Run Phase 2 on the way out, so I finally got to listen to it. It's a step back from how fresh and exciting Phase 1 sounded, with some really insipid tracks like Screwdriver and When She Comes, but it has a solid, meaty middle portion in Stare, Xtraloveable, and Groovy potential. Also closes with some pretty solid tracks. It's all the way a funk and R&B Prince album as opposed to the experimental nature of the last one, but pretty forgettable by comparison. Still, stoked to have my hands on it, seeing as a physical release has yet to pop up anywhere. man nurse fucked around with this message at 02:40 on Mar 8, 2016 |
