Implementing any non-first past the post system on a local level would help immensely. Before that we'd have to start unseating Dems in places with little GOP presence. The Socialist Alternative got a seat with the latter strategy in Seattle, although they're up for re-election this year.

Independent civic groups (unions, BLM groups, for example) to force politicians to act on specific issues dodge the election issue entirely but would have substantially less power.

why does full communism have to be so hard

if the massive teacher protests that are happening now end well, those socialists are definitely getting re-elected. if not they might get re-elected more

i think the biggest thing to change is how we as a society engage in the political process. for example i think that we need to figure out a way to eliminate the overbearing sense of despair people have wrt voting in america. following that we need to turn that into increased voter turnout. also like you said we need to be concerned with all levels of government, not just the presidency.

so that's what political revolution means to me in a bernie context

Why do people think it's despair and not just plain old apathy and not giving a poo poo. Seems to be wishful thinking rather than actual reality. Most people don't even think about politics ever- I think that's something wonks on the 'net often forget.

because I've registered people to vote as a job. The most common refusal response was "I don't trust politicians" or "they're all corrupt", and I only rarely heard "I don't care about politics". And in those cases I think they would care about politics if they thought it could have any positive impact on their lives.

There's a big difference between not caring about elections and not caring about politics.
