There's a new eternal league single player mode where you travel around a map entering comps etc.

I wish there was a way to speed up the AI turns like in the first bb game from cyanide. Single player matches take way too long without that.

There isn't much to the travelling part, mind you. You can basically enter seasonal comps and if you're in the top 2 or whatever you get a ticket to one of the big cups like the Chaos Cup and Spike Magazine Trophy. Eventually if you win one of the big cups you get to go to the Blood Bowl qualifiers. There are also resurrection leagues where I think your guys will come back if they get killed and a comp where you play against mixed teams.

Yeah that's worth picking it up for. I don't have the patience to play against people and their 3 minute moves all the time and its nice when i'm firing up BB1 that I can just blitz through a game in a few minutes.

But isn't the AI really lovely and teaches you bad habits?

Yeah, but there's something appealing though about effortlessly stomping through several 2000+ TV AI teams with your own 2000+ Halfling team How's BB2 now? I gave up because of the stupid match making system from release, is that still going? I'm tempted to pick up LE because Kislevs with a Bear.

On the other hand, the AI won't call you a fag and drop the game when they get two players KOed on the second turn.

After 20 years of playing I have long sincecome to terms with the fact that I will never be good at it. Making people ragequit is all I have to play for.

the AI teaching you bad habits is kind of an academic notion if you do not intend to play online - and a lot of folks don't. private leagues require a fair bit of time investment and communication with others which can be hard either logistically or because goons, and public perpetual leagues quite frankly are fundamentally flawed because they don't acknowledge half of the assumptions in the rulebook (such as weeks of play being a factor in a team's trajectory - a loss doesn't matter in public perpetual, only deaths do.

Personally I already had had habits from playing in essentially open eternal league of the board game when I was a teenager, against other teenagers, where we misinterpreted a few rules and almost no-one bothered to do stuff like game TV.

I will admit that a lot of the dumbest behaviors in the game stem from the fact that was never meant to be played in perpetual leagues. They did gently caress up the new inducement rules though. Unless they've changed it from beta, the way it works now is that the higher TV team buys inducements first and anything they spend out of their treasury gets added to their TV / the opponent's petty cash. Then the lower TV team buys inducements, and if they decide to go into their treasury there is no compensation for the higher TV team, which is liable to lead to stupid poo poo like a team being a 10k underdog and scumbagging a Wizard in a playoff game.

Yeah there's two ways to deal with perpetuals in my mind. Either just let people make teams and level them up at the push of a button to make both time AND deaths worthless and reduce it to playing the game for the game's sake, or match based on number of times the team has played in order to make time matter. If you grind up some horribly minmaxed murder chaos over the course of 250 games, well, you won't have anyone that senior to play except other dillweeds doing the same thing. Cyanide of course will do neither of these

yeah, there's still some action in the old chaos edition from blood bowl 1 though which is why i asked so you don't need the DLCs in this game until you want to play as the teams in them. all the quintessential teams are in the base game; orcs are probably the easiest to pick up for a newcomer, humans are the most flexible and can do a fair bit of both running the ball around, passing it, and punching dudes in the face. orcs are more bashy but still maintain a dude who's good at throwing the ball. so the one-sentence reply is to start with them and play around a little bit. start against the AI, yes we just finished saying it will teach you bad habits if you play against it forever because it's bad at the game but when you're learning what does what it's fine. as you get more used to the game you might say to yourself "hey! playing as a bunch of zombies sounds cool" or "man i want to play as a bunch of short dudes in awesome hats" and at that point you'd go back and get the necromantic DLC or the Chaos Dwarves DLC respectively

I finally got to try this game and everything is just so much in the way of actually playing the game. Menus, interface, animations, the annoying commentators. Playing is a chore. As far as playing a multiplayer board game vs a brain dead AI, yes, there are plenty of campaign options so you can pretend it is meaningful.

Why do gobbos get matched at 150 bonus TV? Cyanide made this a "feature" apparently. A couple bribes is nowhere near seeing more MB block and tackle on enemy teams in value.

I'm dumb and bad at this game but I am enjoying the new solo eternal mode with my team of rats named after US Presidents. A troll punched W. so hard he died and I had to bring him back with an apothecary.

Gobs are meant to play with bribes but forcing it seems inadvisable rather than having sliding scales for match-up tolerance.

If you want your players to match up evenly with your opponent's players, maybe try a different team? Goblins NEED bribes and star players.

I've been sitting and waiting to get Blood Bowl 2 until it was cheap enough to be acceptable, and 44 bucks for the legendary edition is just right for me. Do the goons here still hang out in IRC, or have you moved to Discord like most people?

Is the IRC still vaguely active? I'm starting a new LP tomorrow and I was going to make a discord room and post it in that thread. I'm not dealing with IRC anymore given that discord exists. I don't know if people want to migrate over to discord or what, but I was just curious if people still used the IRC. Not quite an edit: yah same thing as the guy above. I'm making an LP/general bloodbowl discord in the morning.

First match w/Legendary Edition: My new team is a 290k underdog in their first match, game froze to "internal server error" when I tried to view my opponent's roster, eating up most of my inducement selection time. And I rolled a 1 twice for winnings. But that one is just Blood Bowl. Victor Vermis fucked around with this message at 17:32 on Sep 9, 2017 |

Mixed teams? They tend to be gimmicky and aren't allowed in a lot of leagues I guess. They've only been available for a week so it will take a while for the meta to shake out.

Once again I'm playing to win the tournament with my Skaven team. Got paired on my first match against a Wood Elves team with a starting tree and ZERO rerolls. He, for some reason, gave me advice on building my team and I destroyed him 4-0 and 5 cas on him. This game is beautiful, the only thing that would have make this better is if this clown was a goon.

I picked up the Legendary Edition so I guess it's time to play Blood Bowl again. I'm having trouble deciding what team to make. I love chaos, but I already have a highly developed chaos team and I've played a ton of games with them so I'm looking for something different. What I like about chaos is that i don't have to try and keep them in a low TV bracket because they basically just get better and better, and that they aren't all that squishy. So what team should I play?
