We are really running out of island.

Still, I suppose that's a good thing, right? Not like there's some other island just off the south of the map that we'll have to clear off for endgame or anything. ...right?

Day 63 – I'll bite them to death tonight!

I had to take Alice off of exploration duty again for R&R, but the B-Team managed to explore two areas today.

Illyana also got a level-up while exploring and it will probably just get reinvested in her exploration skill, since there is not much else to do on the island.

AM Exploration

Location of the AM exploration event.

We are a little bit short on stone, so we will stop and grab these.

Julia's scavenging is not the best, but I want to avoid getting anyone injured.

These stones will help keep our cookpot (and maybe the infirmary) repaired.

PM Exploration

Yet another multiple repeat event.

I forgot what searching gives us, so we might as well try it out.

Harvesting is mostly used for getting fruit, which is always nice to have.

Unfortunately, all we get is more tinder (to restart our fire which has never gone out), and some soy sprouts (which are snacks we do not need).

Night

She manages to get fruit for us, and without shattering her hip like Jacob did. The relationship boost is also nice, since she tags along with Winters a lot when exploring.

Crew Status:

We are looking good on both skills and status. I will probably give Julia a fire crystal before the Beast fight to make sure she is in top condition.

Island Status:

There are only three jungle squares left, so the White Magician has to be in one of them. After that it is time to fight the Beast.

Day 64 – Minor Arcana

I decide to put all of Illyana's skillpoints into exploration, since Winters and Alice need to take the morning off. This way, Illyana will be able to help fill in for their absence.

AM Exploration

The location of the AM event.

It has been a while since we have had this event, so we might as well go for it.

Julia get a tiny bit of damage, and a couple more sprouts.

Julia gets even more banged up, and gets a little queasy from all that poison.

She does get enough plant matter to last us for a good while. The herbs will be useful for curing her sickness and the ropes will fix up our fishing and scavenging gear. The sprouts will just be tossed on the pile with the others.

PM Exploration

The location of the PM event. We have a 50-50 shot of this being the White Magician.

Someone this weird has to be a quest objective.

Our chosen one will go out to confront him.

And it seems we have a choice on our hands. It looks like we can choose one of the minor Tarot arcana here (although pentacles seems to be missing for some reason).

Since I picked Julia to be our chosen hero, I will let you guys choose her weapon of choice.

Night

It looks like Jacob is trying to one-up Illyana on the food for friends game. Unfortunately, not only does he throw out his back again, but three of the eight steaks rot away before morning.

Crew Status:

Aside from Jacob's latest mishap, we are doing pretty good. Illyana is tired, and people are depressed, but that might not matter after the Beast battle.

We do need to choose what to pick from the White Magician. Will Julia pretend to be:

1. A fighter?
2. A mage?
3. Or a drunken master?

Island Status:

Most of the island is explored, and we found both the White Magician and the Beast cave, so I am not sure how much there is left to do on the island.

Day 65 – Those who hunt monsters

When we last left off, Julia was about to make a momentous decision. Wands was the arcana of choice, so let's see what fabulous magical powers we get for our big battle.

You chose...poorly.

It looks like Julia is going to need a different source of help for this battle.

Thankfully, we have been stockpiling power-ups for just such an occasion.

First, we get Julia healed up.

Next, we will buff up her skills with all those Ancient Wisdom tablets we have been finding.

These are Julia's stats before the tablets.

And these are her stats afterwords.

Now she is loaded with ancient magic and ready to fight.

AM Expedition

We should just start a bonfire in the cave mouth and use up all the oxygen in the cave, but that is not an option.

I choose you, Chosen One!

This seems like a pretty good arena for a final boss fight.

I wonder how they will model this exciting battle to the death?

Oh. I guess it is just another multiple choice event.

It is best to get a feel for your opponent before jumping into anything rash, so Julia will spend the first round sizing up this monstrosity.

She fails the intelligence check, but for some reason, the message is about us missing the beast.

We have a higher chance of parrying the blow, so we will go with that option.

And we succeed!

Agility is tempting, but Julia is much better at stealth, so that will be our choice.

We get spotted, and take a major blow.

Julia should still be in decent shape, so we will continue fighting.

The intelligence check was a bust last time, so let's see if offense is a better tactic.

It looks like it is!

Offense! We can slowly devour it one bite at a time!

Ow. Stealth is our highest probability option, so we go with that.

And we manage to get the drop on it as it charges past us, so we will give it a quick Judo Chop as it goes by.

And now to kick punch it while it is down

It looks like Julia's spindly arms are not enough to do in this beast.

We have been taking a lot of hits, so we had better withdraw and regroup.

With all her injuries, Julia is not able to avoid all of the attacks as she runs away.

She took a good beating, but Dr. Winters and her island pharmacy should be able to patch her up for round 2.

With Julia's traits, she gets a 50% bonus to her injury recovery, so each bottle will recover 30% injury for her.

With two bottles of painkillers, she is good to go.

AM Expedition – Second Attempt

Same fighters, same intro.

I guess Julia's agility is a little bit lower now because she still has a couple points of injury left.

That means that we will try to scout out the situation like we did before.

And it winds up just like it did before.

We miss the Con. check, but we have an opportunity to utilize her maxed out stealth to recover.

But we get found again.

This is going even worse than last time, but we should be able to survive another round before running away again.

We only have a (40% * 40% * 40%) = 6.4% chance of failing three 60% chances in a row, so we will go with Intelligence again.

And it finally works! We celebrate with a celebratory nibble on its hand.

It does not like our choice of party food. Ashamed of her poor hosting skills, Julia hides in the corner.

The beast is too embarrassed by this display to interrupt it.

Julia tries to make it up to the beast by giving it a vigorous neck massage.

Julia's chiropractic skills leave something to be desired.

Perhaps grabbing it for a firm handshake would be better.

And with that handshake, Julia leave with a farewell gift to show to her friends.

We did not take much damage in that last attempt, so we can probably wait and heal up later.

Now time to walk the entire length of the island to see the old man.

Moving around the island is a lot faster when you are not exploring.

Who else would we be sending?

Time to sit through another cutscene.

There is only one viable option here for us.

Get trashed with the weirdos.

It looks like Julia has put all of Yuri's benders to shame, and even brought back some refreshments for everyone else.

It appears that the wine of the gods is twice as potent as a bottle of rum.

Using this stuff is a dangerous gamble. If your maluses are too high, it could easily push the drinker over the edge and end up killing them.

We have a new task ahead of us, and surprisingly, it is not a fetch quest.

The radio is automatically installed back at the camp, and requires one operator to work it.

It looks like it raises depression, so we will probably get one of our more cheerful crew-mates to run it.

This update is getting long, so that will need to wait for next time.

Day 65b – All we hear is radio ga ga

We need someone less depressed than Julia to operate the radio and try to call for help.

Most everyone is fishing, exploring or recovering, so I have the Russian guy who barely speaks English do it.

AM Expedition

Due to all of the half-finished areas, we managed to explore two areas this morning.

Another crashed WWII plane. If there was a military presence on the island, it would explain why there are so much random abandoned equipment here.

Let's stock up for the trip home.

We still have plenty of painkillers, but coffee and water are always useful.

Now on to the second event:

It would be nice to have some golden souvenirs to remember our stay on the island.

I suppose we could also use some snacks for the trip home.

PM Expedition

Yuri has done a pretty good job with the radio, but he needs to fix dinner.

Bob is done fishing for the day, so he will take over for now.

We also manage to finish two areas in the PM shift.

We don't need any wood, so I'll pass on this.

We are already sending an SOS via radio, so we will pass on this as well (unless I need to fill space in the next episode).

Night

I am not sure if we have heard about Alice and Bob's daughter before this. It would be odd for someone as chatty as Alice to keep something like that to herself.

Crew Status

Most everyone is happy and healthy, but Julia could probably use a fire crystal.

Our skills are pretty much maxed out on everyone's specialties.

And now for a possibly final overview of the various relationships.

Al loves the ladies (and only the ladies).

Illyana and Jacob have never got along, and she has always been at odds with her stepmother, but she is oddly uncomfortable with Bob.

Jacob has become BFF's with Bob due to all their depression-free fishing trips boosting their relationships each morning. This is a little bit odd since he also seems to have a crush on his wife, but that love triangle will need to be resolved once they get back to the mainland.

Winters has has a lot of expeditions with Alice and Illyana, so she has gotten to know them really well.

It is obvious why Yuri is close to Illyana, but I still have no earthly idea how he got so close to Bob.

Julia has explored with Alice, hunted with Jacob, has a crush on Al, but she also has an inexplicable fondness for Bob.

It looks like Bob may think that Al is getting too close to his wife.

Alice likes everyone but Yuri, so I guess they must have had a bad event or two.

Island Status

Only one place left to explore on the island. With the 36% exploration done on it, we should have no problem exploring that tomorrow morning.

I am not sure if we will complete our transmissions in the morning, or in the afternoon, but we will definitely finish it up sometime tomorrow.

Day 66 – I'll send an SOS to the world

This might be our last day on the island, so let's get started.

Illyana is our technical expert, so she will be operating the radio this morning.

And it looks like she was able to get ahold of someone.

It appears she has triggered a cutscene.

And here is our ride.

That space does not look big enough to land a helicopter, but I am sure they will find a way to get down to the island somehow.

I just noticed that our ride does not appear to have any landing gear in this picture.

Plus, there seems to be something happening to the rotors.

Maybe that is not as bad as it looks.

Nope, it looks pretty bad.

And down they go.

It appears that they are attempting to land on the island.

They are traveling pretty fast for a helicopter.

I do not think we will be rescued today.

And now the credits roll.

Here are the developers.

And it looks like our team of castaways is going native. It seems like we are succumbing to whatever blue-skinned deification that happened to Zeus and the others.

Bob appears to be the new God of Technology/the Forge.

Jacob looks to be the God of Mutant Animals.

Yuri has never fished once on the island, but he is now the God of the Sea?

Alejandro is now the Messenger God, but apparently cannot fly off the island.

Julia would definitely be either the Goddess of Death (or possibly the Hunt).

Illyana is either a dryad or a Goddess of Nature.

Winters would have to be Goddess of Agriculture if Illyana already has Nature.

Alice fits being the Goddess of Exploration, but we have already explored almost all of the island.

And that is the end of the game. We have explored nearly the whole island, fought off a monster, and very nearly escaped.

All in all, not a bad game. Thanks for reading, and hope to see you again in the LP forum!

Bonus – Finishing off the Island

We did leave a spot unexplored on the island, so let's go finish it off so I can get the 100% exploration achievement.

All I had do was reload our most recent autosave and take Illyana off of radio duty to prevent the ending cutscene from starting.

This is the location of interest.

It doesn't look special, but maybe the reward will be special.

Nope, just another pointless skull.

Since LP's over, I'll mention why I detest Jacob:

He tried to murder Illyana by throwing her into the fire but thankfully the others caught him in the act and saved her and then later he succeeded in poisoning Bob, and swiftly moved into to "comfort" Alice while she grieves.

And given characters can and will die, it leads you up to believe everyone will eventually leave and deal with the aftermath - like how in my game, Jacob murdered Bob and started wooing Alice, so I expected them to get off and an have an epilogue of the two marrying but there's just something not right going on.

Or Alejandro and Winters hooked up, and they try to maintain the relationship afterwards.

So just "Hey, you guys are stuck here, deal" just leaves a sour note, especially as before they added the patch with new dialogue, not one character consider settling on living on the island for the rest of their lives.

The ending might be a bit of a letdown, but it is still a fun time getting there. The map and the character traits are randomized each game, and there are plenty of night-time events we haven't seen, so you can still have fun replaying it.

Robindaybird

Granted, I first played prior to the added dialogue, went through them all about the halfway mark (least all that didn't need Bob alive), was doing quite well enough - and the ending kicks in and it felt like a waste. I know as a small team they can't do too much, but there's a lot of dangling plot threads left unresolved and if there's no other ending, it kind of makes them pointless if they never get resolved or brought up in any meaningful way.
