UPDATE: Part 08: Anti-Diesel Force

How many cops are there in Barcelona? How many have we actually killed so far? Just how stiff and bendy are they?

This and many more questions are answered in this new episode... I think.

UPDATE: Part 09: Vin Diesel Steals Romanian Porn

In this episode, we steal Romanian porn. There's a lot of explosions.

Also, here is the Vin Diesel D&D video I reference in the episode.

Open world driving games always seem to have you doing jobs for really annoying people like Miguel. People who do dumb things to drag you into trouble(which they blame you for) so you have to get them out of the jam they created while they nag you the entire time.. Granted, most games give you the opportunity to pay them back later but it's still an annoying trope.

I'm looking forward to some real Vin Diesel diplomacy in the next episode.

Vin Diesel already was a babysitter by the way.

At the very least this mission shows they knew what was fun about this game, even if went way past the point of excess.

Also how did they get that truck down there in the first place without smashing everything that you smashed on your way out? :v:

I completely forgot about that movie. Probably for the better.

The game seems to have a lot of filler, both in the actual missions and side missions, but sometimes they nail what's good about over-the-top vehicle mechanics. The mission in the next episode caught me completely off-guard.

You get an email from Adrian that says: "Milo, there's serious movement going on, the gangs are getting ready for something. I don't know what, but whatever it is, it's big." and when you start the mission form the map, it starts where Part 11 is. No cutscene or anything. There are a few missions like that with minimal context and it's confusing. It'll happen again in Part 12.

It's hard to tell, but I think Che turns into one of those corner stores with nothing but glass all along the corner, so not quite going through the wall, but still, minimal excuse for the games programming.

Personally, I think it's a little much. The guy is a nerd deep down. That's cool. The fact he actually went and got involved with REAL street racing to help better understand his character in the original F&F, I thought that was cool too. But The last Witch Hunter? No. Not cool. This is a stupid attempt to get more money out of people who you think want to see a different side of you. If he was the writer or even just the director, I'd be okay with it. But the fact he is playing his own character makes me think this is the worst kind of self-insert fan fic.

I think you've got that a little backward. His D&D character was probably based on the movie (the nerdist D&D session was earlier this month based on that facebook video, and the movie must certainly have been in production for months or years prior), not the other way around. Also if you think he's got anything to do with the movie beyond being an actor, I can't turn up any evidence of that with a cursory search.

I'd hate to break it to you, but ... actually, I love this story, so:

quote:

What was it about “The Last Witch Hunter” that attracted you?
VIN DIESEL: Let me go way back. For the 30th anniversary Dungeons and Dragons the company at the time asked me to write the foreword for the book. [In it] I talked about my experience growing up playing Dungeons and Dragons religiously. I even talked about a character that I had named Melkor — a name that obviously I stole from “The Silmarillion” — and [how] that character was a witch hunter.

[Then] about four years ago I met with a writer name Cory Goodman and we started talking. Someone put us together because he was a D&D player. [Afterwards, Cory] went off to write a whole film around my character Melkor. Just the very fact that I’d be playing a witch hunter speaks to how nerdy I was about the game, how committed I was to D&D because witch hunter [wasn’t a] class by TSR at the time. It was a character that you could get from a third party book of characters called The Arcanum. There were a few characters that started there that eventually Dungeons and Dragons took over; one of those characters was a witch hunter.

The movie is literally, not a joke, based on his D&D character.

Making a movie for free about your dumb D&D character is dumb.

Getting paid hundreds of thousands of dollars (at least) of someone else's money to play your dumb D&D character in a dumb movie is smart.

Also I think that's the most bizarre iteration of stealth gameplay I've ever seen. I don't remember that at all from when I played this.

Finally, 13 episodes in and we finally have our melee weapon! It really seems like the audio's skipping more frequently in these new episodes, though. It's probably got something to do with the crashing I guess?

This game really is a janky prototype of Sleeping Dogs, isn't it? Non-american city, undercover guy playing gangs against one another, insane nonsensical car physics, all it needs is better city setup and kung-fu.

Kind of related to that, guns in Spain are about as legal as they are in Hong Kong. Maybe a bit more lax than the rest of the EU, though, but still nothing compared to the US. Much like in WD, realistically policemen would be all over your rear end for shooting firearms. That said, the game probably would be even better if it stuck to driving and punching the crap out of people instead of awkwardly walking past someone attempting to shoot you point-blank.

You can't hijack/airjack objective-sensitive vehicles, unless it's specifically an objective to do so. :(

Yeah, after the first crash, the audio just got kind of wonky and restarting the console or OBS didn't do anything about it. The next episode will also have this issue, but hopefully the batch of episodes after that is fine. I only noticed it during editing, so if I get another crash I'll just postpone recording to avoid it.

Yeah, if the game was structured over driving and they had just enemies use guns ("Milo doesn't use guns") the game would be better. It still has lots of great ideas, and thankfully Sleeping Dogs nicked a bunch.

I'm pretty sure it does? I know for a fact that both this game and Sleeping Dogs have the crazy unrealistic car-ram that causes your vehicle to suddenly jolt to the side and smash other cars.

e: Of course it does! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PbOo3_0p5gA

One thing that really gets me about turning in the game; drifting/handbrake turns here don't really change your trajectory of movement and more or less just reangle your car while it sort of drags forward. Which is utterly counter to what you want for fast driving and taking sharp turns and to be honest I don't know if it's a mistake in how RSB's driving or if the game just doesn't have an alternative to that.

Clearly its because he's told every criminal in Barcelona so many times that he's just a hired hand and that nothing is ever his fault they all just believe him. He's not the important part, the fact that he pulled up in a car from the other gang (which they gave him, obviously) is all the information someone needs.
