One more question on guardian weapons before I head out - is the new Ram Tah mission separate to the tech brokers/guardian sites, or is it all one and the same. Ie, you need corrosive cargo capability just to get guardian weapons for some reason?

If you just want the guardian weapons and you don't care about the Ram Tah mission, you don't actually need a cargo rack at all. It's enough to just scoop up the mats and run the data points to get the weapon blueprint data.

That's low for an Anaconda. The highest one that I've seen was 250k.

i can also confirm that they do not like it when you commit assault in low-res zones.

it's assault to attack a wanted target, if they're clean in your system? is that how it works?

My knowledge might be out of date, so take this with some salt.

The value of a NPC's bounty is a function of their rank and ship type. So the highest bounty you can expect to see would be from an elite ranked anaconda.

The kinds of ships that will spawn in a RES and the ranks of those ships seem to be tied to your instance. Sometimes you get a "bad instance" where only small ships will spawn, or only low-ranked NPCs will spawn. If you're just in solo, you can relog and try again. If you're in open, and there are other people in your instance, I think you all have to supercruise away and circle back in. The instance will persist as long as someone is hanging out there.

If you hit a dry spell, try returning to the center of the RES. That is, go to where the nav point for the RES is.

it makes for some fun feeding frenzies in resses where other players actually exist, where one fires before they completely scan something (or friendly fire happens) and they get tagged as wanted and devoured

I don't really know, but I don't think so. I suspect spawn rates are determined by system population. If this is a problem for you, you might try finding a high population system with a RES and try your luck there.

if i'm enjoying the eagle as a 'fly fast and shoot things' ship, should i track down an imp eagle? or should i just save for a ship with a fighter bay to plop down somewhere and just launch fighters with? how do the fighters work?

It doesn't help that I'm fat as fuck, so my face shouldn't be shown off in the first place.
If you really want to go fast I'd suggest the Imperial Courier because you can push that thing into the 800+ m/s range. Fighters work by either allowing a hired pilot to fly them for you or making the pilot fly your ship while you fly the fighter about. If you go for the latter then only go for max rank pilots because otherwise they'll get your ship blown up. Also works with multiplay to allow people to fly your fighters.

If you like going fast make the dirtiest, lightest Imperial Courier you can. You can do ridiculous things at ridiculous speeds and it’s a decent fighter that you can really throw around. Plus the rebuy is low for all those times you slap against something and die

You should update the coriolis link to the new version. https://beta.coriolis.edcd.io/

Inara is missing its 'I'.

"Well considering the rest of the industry", should probably drop the 'Well' from there.

"Should I buy Horizons? (the first expansion)
I'm going to say yes since it adds a lot to the game and IIRC future updates are predicated on you owning it."
This entire section should probably contain actual information about the expansion eg. ships, engineers, planet landing instead of just a short opinion.

And a new thread to shitpost in is probably a good idea.

E: Really most of the proposed OP so far appears to be purely opinion based and should probably be changed to be more facts centered.

The game not explaining its mechanics is frustrating, but it's easy to find videos and such explaining things.
This is loving dumb. Full stop. This is like saying "dude setting up wifi/sound in linux is easy, just google it" and sends some poor fucker searching on how to do it and all you find are pages upon pages of stupid broken instructions that are 12 years old and haven't been accurate in 10 years at least.

Here's the great example.

Last night after I finished that silly rep grind thing, I decided to check out the Engineer things. I don't really know what it's about. I see icon in my console and hit it and read it's super great and everyone wants it. So I look at the one it says I have access too. It's in some system far away and that I need to bring the person 1 meta-alloy. So I load up the market at the station and look for some... nothing there. I look around in bit and can't find where I get it. Or what meta-alloys are. I've never seen them. Hell I still don't know if I need to give them cash after I line it up... am I wasting my time? Okay whatever.

So here goes -- I have to get out of the game and search for a website on where I can get meta-alloys because the dumb thing says bring them but doesn't say anything else. I search and find some wiki here: http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Meta-Alloys. Okay so there's the in game description that I could see if I had them and learn they Thargoid poop or whatever. I have to blow up an Organic Structure near an Alien Structure. Okay gently caress where do I find those? Is there something on the map? Do I have to scan like 12394814 planets with a scanner to find one? I can't find anything in game to give me a clue how to get started. There was a coordinates list on some planet listed on this wiki (how was it found originally?) -- is that the place I got to start? Is this stupid wiki even right or outdated?

Okay so looking at the history on this wiki they talk about Maia system let people sell them as it was found near there. Okay so let me fly there and try to buy some. So I fly 25 jumps last night to get down there to check. I finally made it and checked the market. None there. Okay whatever... will start again tonight. So I guess I need to go find this Merope 5 C and find those coordinates and see if there is some Thargoid poop I can chisel away for myself.

I'm 100% all for exploring and trying things for myself, but if you're going to block deep exploration behind a game mechanic at least put something in game to get the thing going rather then nothing. I have no idea if I'm even doing the right thing to find this stuff for the lady or if this was what they expected.

I'm enjoying the game but drat man some of this stuff is needlessly obtuse and having to feel like "should I be reading some poo poo outside the game to make sure I'm not being dumb" is stupid.

A note about trying to jump into bigger ships:

Don't.

If you dive right into a larger ship, you'll probably run into a serious amount of frustration. NPC spawns are somewhat dependent on your ship size, and most of the time they are engineered. It's a better idea to progress through ship sizes rather than just try to aim high for the biggest possible ship.

I made billions of spacebux doing the skimmer exploit and went out and bought an A-fit Anaconda; only to get constantly get pulled over by engineered anacondas that loving wreck me. So now I'm forced to go grind out all the engineers simply to keep up with the increased ship sizes that I'm running into.

I'd advise to stick to small and medium ships until you get your engineers up to a respectable level. Otherwise you'll be banging your head against a wall over and over trying to play catch up with a large and slow rear end ship.

It's supposed to be both ship and combat rank, but it doesn't really matter anyway because an A-fit anaconda affords you ample time to run away from any NPC threat. Just submit to interdiction and high wake away.
