When they upped mission rewards again it made mining missions giving you more minerals back than what you were turning in. So you go mine legit for one mission then it turns into a rolling mission completion spree.

I got the rest of the 70% I needed to hit Rear Admiral last night and I'm not even sure you can call it a grind any more. It took 20 minutes to get the 70% and 21% into the next rank. Compare that to when I got Duke and a full board of 20 missions would move the progress bar like 6-7%. Getting federal / imperial rank seems to take about the same amount of time it took to get a single faction to Allied before the patch and is now something that will actually just happen on its own doing a moderate amount of missions over time. It is a very sharp change from requiring like 2200 missions per navy which would be improbable to hit just playing the game.

What were you doing? A fast way to get rank in federal would get me to open up the game I think.

Cool, mining missions disabled just in time for the maiden voyage of my mining-fit Type-10.

I was already a bit worn down from my latest mats grind; I think I'm just going to uninstall until the big mining update later this year.

Just courier missions between Dakondunii and Kamahu. Some gentlegoon posted it here and linked to this reddit post. It took me 2 or 3 complete board flips to fill up in Dakondunii, but there were fewer missions in Kamahu. I ended up just getting 12-15 there and coming back. The whole process 35% -> Rear Admiral 19% was only 2.5 round trips. I also donated for every donation mission that popped up which cost me ~20M.

What’s the difference between ancient ruins and “guardian structure” when out here exploring? I also cannot seem to find an ancient orb at any guardian structure, and I don’t have corrosion resistant racks to carry one around.

Also what are the important things to be collecting out here? I think I have a few weapons blueprints and a ton of power cells and other bits from guardian sentinels, not sure about what data types are important though.

The guardian artifacts aren't corrosive, so as long as the obelisk you're trying to decrypt only requires guardian artifacts to unlock, you should be OK without a corrosion resistant cargo rack.

You can find guardian orbs at Synuefe XR-H D11-102 planet 1 B coordinates -31.7347, -128.9212. Might wanna grab 2 while you're there.

Decrypting those obelisks is only relevant to Ram Tah's mission, as far as I know. If you don't care about that mission, you can still collect the guardian mats to unlock stuff at the tech broker. Recipes here: http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Technology_Broker

I think the last time the gravy train was an obvious exploit was the sothis slave scumming, which had the hilariously prescient side effect of tanking your Sirius Corp rep (gently caress Qwent).

I agree from the description of it but given the current discussion and the way they balance the gold rush style “bugs” it’s a huge PR/optics thing. I hope people harp on these things enough we see positive change in Frontiers grind-first attitude.

No, I think you actually gained a little sirius rep from each transaction because they apprecited your business in the market (selling the slaves you stole from them)

Because you have to earn it, FDev-style, by grinding through pages and pages of junk before you get to what you actually want. It's very thematically appropriate.

That was before they introduced cancelling/failing a mission giving you a rep hit, harsh enough to more than cancel out selling your stolen slaves back to them.

That ship is so fun to fly and has interesting loadout options...

My 1 complaint is that I realised too late not all stations have L-sized pads so I will need a side small/medium still for some stuff :D

Probably gonna go mining now or something.

Right, I definitely had to dig myself out of max unfriendly rep with Sirius when the time came.

Fortunately at the time there was an obscure system in the far reaches of the bubble controlled by Sirius where you could bounty hunt against the single other present faction. That ended up being way faster than running missions.

in other news, i finally realized there's actually stuff on planet surfaces other than just a bunch of sweet jumps to take the scarab over at full speed. i saw something somewhere mention that there will be an update that includes planets with cities and stuff, is that a beyond thing or something further out in the future?

I was bounty hunting and nicked the wrong ship and got a bounty. I waited two hours for my notoriety to go to zero, went to a station that had an international factions guy, but he won't clear my bounty because he seems to think I still have a notoriety level (it says I'm too high-profile right now and I have to wait until my notoriety goes down). I checked and it still says 0.

are you still in the same system where you got the notoriety? it used to be that once your wanted timer wore off you still had to do a hyperspace jump to another system to "clear" it to a dormant state, but that was all under the old legal system

Probably further out in the future. If I remember what they've been talking about correctly, Beyond is going to mostly have enhancements to existing systems (like the recent rebuild of the crime & punishment and the engineering systems), the upcoming social systems, etc. 'Being able to access urbanized planets' and such smells like it'd be out of scope for that.

Working as intended, Commander! Earning money from completing missions is actually a game-breaking exploit that could result in players being able to purchase spaceships, so our heroes at :frontear: are hard at work ensuring that doesn't happen!

IIRC these missions can now be completed in stages. So instead of 1 trip earning 2M, you'll do 5 trips to earn 1M! See how much fun you are having?
