I would have really liked how Overlord has a protagonist losing touch with his humanity if it was actually about that. Instead, it constantly fetishizes the atrocities that happen as a result, indulging in gore with off-putting sincerity. There are worthwhile characters and bits of world building but Overlord pushes them to the side more and more as the novels progress. Overlord loving sucks, is what I'm getting at

If it just turns into sadistic torture porn that's some real wasted potential. That's one of the last good arcs, if that was as far as I'd gotten I wouldn't be so down on it either.
