That percentage is so high because that's the best strategy for an optimal outcome. You're looking for a shortcut, but there aren't any. Hard work isn't what makes people successful, it's all about doing the *right* work. You'd probably be amazed at the number of people earning six-figure incomes that do hardly any work most days. Not to say they sit around doing nothing, but efficient workers can earn more than they're paid in a few hours a day, on most days. That being said, if you don't want a degree, but want to earn a good living, IT is probably your best bet. You'll have to pick up a book and get your hands dirty, but there will be plenty of long weekends to make you feel like you're earning your paycheck.
