I don't think Tomino hates robots per se, but he dislikes how the inherent reliance on merchandising results in sponsors meddling in production. In particular, Sunrise getting bought up by Bandai was a big blow for him and, if I'm recalling correctly, a major source of the angst that permeates Victory.

He definitely isn't. When he voices criticism of shows like Eva and AoT it sounds less like his problems with those works specifically and more warning others away from what he sees as repeating his own mistakes as a creator.

From what I heard, the endgame of the show is everything being orchestrated by some weird dude that really wants to gently caress Ange.

I'll add that Majestic Prince is also worth giving a shot, though it's not particularly exceptional in any area aside from CG.

Sakurazuka posted:Rinne no Lagrange is fun enough if you want something with cute girls and robots and pretend the second season doesn't exist. I liked RnL S1, but I'm not sure if I'd recommend it as an mecha show since I felt the action was easily the weakest part. Madoka doing a suplex in the first episode is by far the peak of the show's action, the rest is kind of bleh. Good SOL though.

I'd care more about ZERO if it was just over the top and not incredibly gross as well.

Go Nagai's stuff can be violent and juvenile, but he doesn't go about it the way Zero's author does, especially if you look into his other work. Same way that recent Getter manga's trying to be violent and gritty in the same vein as Ishikawa, but totally misses the mark.

I haven't read it to confirm, but the Wolf Guy manga apparently features a character getting raped for over 10 chapters.

I've only read a bit of Z, but I've heard the issue is that partway through it shifted from being its own thing to a promotional/companion piece for the Toei anime, hence stuff like Borot suddenly popping up.

Yeah precure is, pretty obviously a kids' show if you've seen any of it. There's an ancient image of the series' viewership demos that people apparently misinterpret to mean that it's equally or predominantly adult men watching, when it's really saying that of the male viewership that existed, it skewed older. And as mentioned above the series has grown an audience of adult women as fans grew up in the years since the series first aired.

Apprentice Dick posted:What in the gently caress is that poo poo Darling in the FranXX, a show about robots that are like, that, but also nobody is allowed to know what relationships are for some reason. I never watched it since the premise was offputting and from the sidelines all I heard was it going for the most basic beats and defusing anything potentially interesting. It's also the sort of show that's focused on relationships and romance literally and thematically but only acknowledges the existence of people that aren't straight once and they're the one character in the protag group who gets incurably inflicted with plot cancer

But I'd probably bring down the wrath of someone accusing me of generalizing. yes, you could repeat this line with zero self-awareness for the millionth time. That is a thing you could do.
