My male cockatiel will start talking over me whenever I talk and will abruptly stop when I stop talking and proceeds to stare at me until I start talking again. My female cockatiel attacks my hand until I start tickling her neck.

Fear the bird.

Have you guys never seen a child of years 0-2 play before? Children yell into cups to hear their echo or just to make noise to amuse themselves. Cockatoos do it for the same reason.

Alex the african grey parrot was, so far, the only animal to ever ask an intelligent question. When he was taught about colors, he asked "what color am I?" Bird got obits in the times & the economist.

This all makes perfect sense. If I've learned anything about dinosaurs from Jurassic Park, it's that the velociraptors were super smart. All those brains apparently stuck around a little bit inside these birds over the past 65 million years.

I alone can see through the media bias.

I'm also stupid on a scale that can only be measured in Reddits.
Crows independently came up with the concept of trial by jury. Its really hardcore cuz when a crow loses it is mobbed and murdered but it is justice of a sort. :crowethics:

Also my parents' female cockatiel hates the poo poo out of her mate when he whistles at humans or puffs up and acts like hot poo poo. Shes very sensitive to hubris and attacks when it is displayed.

I wonder why any scifi movie hasn't used budgies (or other parrot species not very good at mimicking speech) for robot sounds.

One of cockatiels on the first page has another video where the camera zooms on the carpet for a second, and you can just see the poo poo stains everywhere.

My favorite Alex story, which Pepperberg told on NPR's Fresh Air, went something like this: Alex was ill and had to be taken to the vet, and had to stay overnight. Alex was not happy about staying overnight in a strange place and as Pepperberg was leaving, Alex kept saying "Wanna go home, wanna go home." But Pepperberg obv couldn't take Alex home. Finally, as Pepperberg was near the door, Alex tried one last thing. Thinking that maybe Alex was being forced to stay as punishment for doing something wrong, Alex just said, "I'm sorry."

gently caress. I loved reading about that bird when I was a kid. :(

We have some bird drama in my neighborhood now. The White-tailed Kites that like to hunt near my freeway exit had three babies fledge at the beginning of the month, but the father disappeared right around that time. I've been stopping off with a camera on the way to and from work when I can to keep tabs on them. The mom was hunting constantly to keep them fed, and has kept two of them alive. On my last visit, one of the fledglings was caught a vole on its own, so I think they're going to be alright.

Mom giving a vole to one of her children.

A juvenile misses the vole with its talons and face-plants into it.

One juvenile returning to the perch with a vole after its sibling has already eaten.
