I've been watching the Simpsons since day one. I now watch out of habit, like SNL, in hopes I'll get to see a great episode.

At this time, season 17 is the last one available as a DVD box set (a no-frills set of season 20 was issued to take advantage of the mid-season switch to HD). The rumor is that, due to decreasing sales and the rise of streaming services, they will not offer any future sets. It seems that they could go to MOD (Manufacture on Demand) for the hardcore fans who must have pristine copies.

I have bought several TV shows that way and have had no problems. The lack of extras like deleted scenes and commentaries is of no concern.

Whenever the show finally ends they'll probably release a single complete box set.

It'll also cost like $900 because it's 30 seasons.

I'm curious as to which episodes you think are legitimately good? Regardless of internet hive mind deciding when the series went bad, I can't say I've thought an episode in a season with double figures was 'good' even when they were airing. Some were 'alright' in the same way that some Family Guy post-comeback (and in hindsight, pre-comeback) are 'alright'. Like, they didn't feel like a complete waste of half an hour but I'm not going to go out of my way to watch them again.

I seem to remember the RIbwich episode ("I'm Spelling as Fast as I Can") to be good.

It's used a million times in Loony Tunes, or any other cartoon that has some kind of military segment.

Also any series with ants.
