And imports have been decreasing over the past 15 years or so, too, which is why the Saudis are so scared of shale oil. Oil is a fungible commodity. It doesn't matter what percentage of oil we import from them, all that matters is that they are a big producer and sold on the world market. We could import 0% of our oil from them and the Sauds would still have an effect on the price of our oil. The only way around that would be too nationalize our domestic oil production.
