HoI4 is the first HoI game I actually felt comfortable controlling both the military and economic aspects of the game, whereas before I either rammed poo poo into more poo poo hoping it would work or just set it to AI and hoped I made enough good poo poo it could ram into other poo poo.

Yes, Crisis of the Confederation, but it hasn't been updated in years and doesn't work with the current version of the game.

There's a version on the workshop that mostly works, it's just a straight port by some other person though.

I think that's a good assessment. "Ground combat" should have been solved a long time ago.

I tore out a piece of an old mod that makes planets get conquered when they hit 100% devastation and have less than 2 armies on them while massively boosting the damage fleets do against armies. It's worked with every mod I've paired it with and I've never looked back, and it even solves the AI sitting fleets over planets forever.

Fake Edit: Oh yeah, MoO3 would be the one with the closest thing to how Stellaris treats hyperlanes, but even that allowed "off-roading" at a massive speed penalty.

MoO3 wasn't that bad once the Vanilla/Chocolate/Strawberry mods came out!

I can't decide between Paraguar, hammer-growth Australia, or the several missing island countries and that's not even mentioning whatever the gently caress is going on with Scandanavia.

I also like how MaliBurkina appears to be daintily reaching down to grip (checks glasses) GhanaTogo?

It's going to be Victoria: iOS, tap rapidly to build factories faster than France so you can arm enough soldier pops to win the war for unification.

the prussians expanded their war aims twice, i held out as long as i could and then there was an actual revolution which i didn't have the forces to stop since they were all tied up in huge battles with prussians and they actually won

so now i lost half the country and there are rebels everywhere

is this what it was like to be a russian nobleman in 1917

I can't count the number of times I've seen France just stop being an effective force by mid-late game in V2. Half the times I wasn't Prussia, or even trying to cause them grief, it was like they just got kicked so hard that they could no longer field an army that could defend against anything approaching France's size.

does EU1 use the paradox scripting language? if so it would predate JSON

EU1 didn't have modding, or at the very least it wasn't modder friendly.

I do enjoy random outcomes and seeing how weird the world gets at the end of a HoI or EU playthrough, but for the country I'm playing I usually try to go historical, mostly because I get decision paralysis very easily and having the, broad, knowledge of what happens helps prevent that.
