I sunk way too many hours in V2 with NNM. Are there any other mods that are good that aren't total autistic overhauls like PDM? I remember a few that tweaked stuff like politics and whatnot were mentioned in the last thread.

The thing I like about V2 is that with pops and everything it feels like I'm running an actual nation. I can never get into EU4 because even with all the expansions it still just feels like my only goal is to paint the map the color I picked at the start of the game.

I just find it weird and gross and very paradoxforums that racial purge mechanics is something they really really want. I can get the argument for terrible nazi things to happen in a WWII game because that's history and it was a very important part of the time period. But in a space fantasy game?? In a game that will allow you to have slavery as a policy people are upset that the human names aren't white enough and why can't we have internal genocide and slavery?!?!

Like I guess sure there's some "realism" reasons you could include that, but I think it mostly speaks to the types of people the people demanding these features are. I'm sure they also love to play Germany in every video game and make scale models of german military vehicles and own "WWII memorabilia" that just happen to be mostly german and have book shelves full of WWII books, once again strangely focused on the germans. Maybe they do airsoft or historical dress up and have an SS uniform.

But they are NOT nazi's or nazi sympathizers they're just really interested in history you see. Anyways, click my sig to get a 20 paragraph feature request about how to "tastefully and historically" implement the holocaust to HOI4 and maybe why Hitler had good reasons to do it (good reasons from a historical perspective I'm not really a nazi remember!)

It's because they're a bunch of nerds directing all of their sexual energy into dumb power fantasies. Some idiots pick shooters, some pick fascists, some pick Stalin.

The only reason I can think of to justify including the Holocaust and whatnot is that you could argue Nazi ideology actively messed up their war effort so having some events related to it that ding IC or manpower could make sense, but you could model that with some generic Nazi incompetence events and it's not like you can't just mod that crap in if you really want to be reminded of how much Nazis sucked.

They use the daily dev build or what ever for the stellaris stream and it's resulted in all sorts of major gently caress ups. Just the nature of dev builds. If it makes anyone feel better, it's always a very different crippling bug every stream. All it takes is one typo in the AI code and suddenly a huge part of the game doesn't work. QA watches the streams and gets right on that poo poo.

I'm also guessing that nailing the AI is one of the last things they do because it's partially config-driven and you don't want to get stuck on that crap only to find out one of your core components has the mother of all segfaults or something.

Actually I've always wondered how shackled pdox is to an older C++ version versus C++11/14 since the language got a lot better with 11.

Kavak, are you trying to revise some of the faction and flag stuff in America as well? I get the joke behind the north being the CSA and the Union being the south, but it really bugs me in Kaiserreich. Would be nice to have an event to pick a new flag and name for the CSA like the AUS gets...

Actually, I just signed up at the forums. I might be bad at irredentist fantasies but I've got a CS degree and a copy of IntelliJ.

It would be cool to have event chains to balance how far you want to take the revolution in terms of how many symbols and parts of the old US government you want to keep around if you're AUS/CSA/etc. Like maybe a full blown constitutional convention or something?

Someone brought up a thread for that, but nothing came of it. My take (This would vary by ideology of course): Things like the Statue of Liberty and Liberty Bell aren't going anywhere, and a line would be drawn between "The War of Independence" and "The Revolution" for historical monuments. The biggest issue would be Washington D.C. itself- what happens to the White House and the Capitol? The CSA wants to govern from Chicago for a variety of reasons, so does the city just become a giant history museum of the old capitalist USA?

Yeah, I always wonder that myself. Especially since I can imagine a syndie America drawing on people like Lincoln in a way other revolutionaries might not.

It might also be cool to have more options to meddle in the Americas. I followed Chief Savage Man's lead in his LP and made the Reed Doctrine give you an alliance with Centroamerica but I'm thinking it'd be cool to have events to prop up syndie Bolivia or Brazil against La Plata. Stuff like that.

The AUS seems a little undercooked. The PSA is goofy but it makes sense from a gameplay perspective since its secession gives CSA/AUS a chance to win but the AUS seems like this vague hodgepodge of populism and fascism. I'm not sure how an AUS I'd like would look though...

I wasn't on the hype train so I don't think Stellaris is all that bad. I just don't get why it didn't get a little more time since it's not PDS's only major title this year. Maybe launching in the autumn still wouldn't give enough time to rework things but it just seems a little rushed.

And I'm sure HoI4 will have all sorts of hilarious bugs and broken AI at launch but based on the streams it just seems a little more focused and that it's probably benefited from the delay.

I don't know about China but I'm assuming some of southern Europe will be getting focus trees. It'd be a little weird to never have trees for Hungary, Romania, or Yugoslavia.

Edit: When I play Texas I also get the USA to invade Haiti for me so I have enough pops to be at least a little viable. You can get a nice chunk of immigration late game too if you pass enough reforms and can snag a few colonies.

People who write and read those huge AARs that have only a tenuous connection to any actual in-game events.

I remember a long time ago there was this massive, massive HoI2 AAR that was basically fanfiction starring Fu Manchu as the big bad behind all evil in the world, and co-starring every single fictional hero and villain who could conceivably be running around the time period. It had maybe one screenshot every five posts, each post being about a chapter's length in a decent novel.

I know the WW1 Biggles books were a decent lunchtime read, though I think I heard something about everything getting toned down and made more kid-friendly by the time WW2 rolled around.

My favorite thing about AARs is when the author gets bored or fucks up his game and gives the excuse of "my hard drive died"

Then again, they could all just be playing games on poo poo piles.

I've come across a few decent AARs on the paradox subreddit that I've read to get ideas on how to play some countries and Chief Savage Man's Kaiserreich LP is wayyyy better than a narrative AAR has any right to be but the Paradox forums have some hilariously bad ones.

I've said it before but I just think it was weird to not give Stellaris a little more time in the oven when Pdox was launching a major title a month later. Most of what people complained about would've probably been fixed if it got a Q4 release IMO.

I feel like people got way too over invested in it though. Like it's cool a good chunk of the dev team posts here but if they can endure code reviews they can ensure shitposting, and if you hated it $40 isn't that much in the grand scheme of things and if it is such a colossal dent in your disposable income you should probably wait for a sale or consider a cheaper hobby.

iirc a popular mod change was to make soldiers all move to the capital of a state, like bureaucrats apparently do?, which alleviates this to some extent.

Yeah I tweaked the game to do the capital fix and I get how if they all relocated to the national capital that would be bad. It would be nice if they went into an EU4 style manpower pool not attached to a geographical location but then you couldn't get the experience of recreating the pals battalions I suppose.
