Yeah, for real! Like even ignoring goofy poo poo like playing into the tech-less far future or whatever, it's just nice to know you won't have to worry about the game just cutting you off in mid-war (even if you aren't scored for it).

Oh wow, the wiki's improved a ton since the last time I checked it. It's almost like there's way more information about the game out there now!

Does anybody have a link to Patter Song's Victoria 2 Bavaria LP? It's one of my favorites. And, of course, there's always CRETE.

I loved drawing arrows all over the Victoria 2 map even though they basically meant nothing, so it'll be cool to just actually play the game like that.

I kind of want to play in a federation just because it seems narratively satisfying to do so. Edit: Have there been any Stellaris gameplay videos yet? I'd like to see how things like the map work in practice since it's so different looking from the mapgames I'm used to.

There's so many mutually contradictory things in the National Focus trees I'm sure there's some kind of system in place to resolve what happens if e.g. both France and Germany take their pro-Soviet options and then go to war with one another, or whatever. It would be safe to assume that the US is going to get involved at some point or another unless they go down a divergence war plan path and it's not like China is going to really gently caress with the west coast . . . I'm like 99% sure this was answered ages ago, but you can customize your Earth humans (govtype, empire name, ethos, etc.) in Stellaris, right? full human xenophile communism imho

Gonna run a Federation gimmick game, probably.

Pakled posted:I think stuff like replicator and transporter allowances are only mentioned in the contexts of disabled/isolated ships, where energy is at a premium, and at Starfleet Academy, where they're probably more used as a tool to maintain discipline than to save energy. Yeah, I seem to remember transporter allowances coming up in the context of Sisko going back to New Orleans when he was at the Academy, I think replicator allowances mostly existed in the context of Voyager being cut off from the rest of the Federation and its supply lines, which was also why they had a working kitchen.

Actual modders are only a very small slice of the total playerbase, but... is there any stuff that talks more about neat things that can be done with modding? Or, like, the raw text form of a hypothetical national tree or an example entry for a minister or how to add in new techs to Stellaris or, or, or Yeah, I'd love to see stuff like this. Or even just like an HoI IV dev diary on modding, or something.

I'd be really curious about what sorts of portraits generals from minor powers get. In the single-player WWW stream, they scrolled down a seemingly endless list of Japanese generals who all had unique, full-color portraits, but I can't imagine it's like that everywhere. Of course, minor nations probably have a lot less generals in general, so...

Triggerhappypilot posted:Out of Darkest Hour and HOI3, which is easier for a new player to get into? I'm too impatient to wait for HOI4. You should probably just wait like three months for HoI 4-- I bounced off of both HoI 3 and DH pretty hard-- but if you're really interested in suffering answering this question might be a bit easier if we knew what your background with existing Paradox games. Have you played CK2/EU4? Victoria 2? The old pre-Clauswitz games like Vicky/Ricky or whatever?

Phlegmish posted:Did you like any of the HOI games? Because if not, I don't think HOI4 is going to be radically different. Well, I mean, the specific things that turned me off of DH (an antiquated, clunky Europa engine UI without any of the quality of life stuff you'd expect in later Paradox games, giving me flashbacks to the bad old days of vanilla Victoria 1) and HoI 3 (extremely convoluted hierarchical orders of battle that take like ten thousand years to organize properly) are both, like, specifically not in HoI IV.

I guess I'll just wait for the HoI IV port...

I can't remember what's in which expansion anymore so somebody else will have to advise about that, but I think England makes a really good starting country since you can dabble in all sorts of things (interfering on the Continent, trade, exploration and colonization, parliaments, etc.) while still having an ocean between you and France so if you gently caress up it's easier to recover.
