So watching the Pokemon videos got me really wanting to play the TCG, I went and downloaded the official Pokemon TCG online game. I played a few rounds with the first decks it gives you and when I played grass I basically had the exact same thing happen to me as it did with The MCD. It kind of feels like grass types get trounced in this in general. I realize that it really depends on how the cards come to you, but that's just the experience I've had. And thinking back to the Gameboy game I don't ever remember winning with grass back then either.

On the other front, I'm going to get Tabletop Simulator the next time it goes on sale now.

A few recording hiccups in this one, but overall a mostly watchable video! :D

For anyone sick of Pokemon, we'll have something new in a week or two! I only have so much time and energy to produce videos in each week, but I've been boosting the number of recording sessions we've done lately (this was Spring Break for me...) so we'll see how that all goes!

2000 | Abstract | Bernard Tavitian | Alary Games

"Blokus is an abstract strategy game with transparent, Tetris-shaped, colored pieces that players are trying to play onto the board. The only caveat to placing a piece is that it may not lie adjacent to your other pieces, but instead must be placed touching at least one corner of your pieces already on the board."

A game we managed to finish in only one video! This video has a lot of pretty good moments in it, and I enjoyed it a lot, so give it a shot??

Funny story: all 3 of the other player's camera angles were unusable, but thankfully for this game it didn't matter, and my camera angles were pretty solid.

So!

Have you tried Triangular blockus? It's called Blokus Trigon and I personally find it much trickier then square Blokus.

When we recorded this video, none of us had tried regular Blokus!

But I will definitely add it to the list. :)

Remember players, it is up to you to make sure your opponent shuffles their deck when they're supposed to. ;)

And this brings Round 1 to an end; There will be a short Round 2 (of which I am considering dubbing Round 2a) before we go into the next full Round (Round... 2b?) to wrap up some bracket-size issues; and we'll delve into the loser's bracket! How exciting.

Before Round 2, expect one other game we've recorded in the meantime!

Hey everyone. My life's been pretty stressful the last week or 2 and is probably going to be getting worse, so I'm going to take a short break from working on stuff while I deal with my life. I hope to get back on track next week, but no promises. Also, my birthday is on Friday, and I was considering doing a birthday stream, but now not so much.

So, yeah. Figured I'd toss out a little update, and I appreciate everyone who's checked out this LP and enjoyed it. I really love putting so much into stupid, overly complex projects like this, even when it takes a lot out of me.

Part 1: Tutorials

Better late than never??

Ended up finishing this up late last night, and the encode wouldn't have finished yesterday, so figured I'd toss it up today.

Yes, we spend the first 50 minutes explaining the rules of the game.

I promise it's at least a little entertaining, though.

Warmal
Aug 12, 2011

This game seems really cool and right up my alley. It has a similar thing going for it as Boss Monster, only more in depth and being a board game instead of just cards. That said, taking 50 minutes to explain the rules seems a bit excessive. Though it just seems like it's because of there being a lot of options as a Dungeon Lord to be and not from it being too complicated.

The T

Yeah; most games you can explain as you go, but this game, since it features 2 very different Phases, and you need to understand Phase 2 in order to prepare for it in Phase 1, ends up requiring you to go a bit in-depth on what Phase 2 is.

I noticed you messed up one of the solutions though. They're all solvable while only losing one tile. There's also a better solution to the first dungeon.

(You also missed the "bonus" where you go back to the first dungeon, replace the first tunnel with a room, and try to ace it. Which is mostly important for teaching the differences between tunnels and rooms with respect to combat.)

That's true, and I've gone back and forth on how to show the ideal solutions, but ultimately I've found that it ends up leading to people spending a lot more time just staring at them and not ultimately understanding how to do combat any better.

I also wasn't aware of the bonus with the first training dungeon.

Since it was on sale I finally took the plunge and got the game. I'm actually surprised to see some of the games that are in the workshop. One I remember playing a lot as a kid is the Pokemon Master board game. I still have my physical copy of it in working condition, but the quality of it in TTS is actually quite amazing. And I found the Japan exclusive Legend of Zelda board game. If anyone is on the edge on whether or not to get the game, do it. Especially if it is still on sale.

I think both of those are even in our list of games we want to play. I know Master Trainer definitely is

Part 3: Priests are Dumb

In which adventurers are finally beating down our doors.

------

Sorry about another late episode; it was rendering Thursday night, but I made a small error and had to re-render, preventing me from posting it on time for Friday. So, here it is.

A bit of a life update: We have quite a bit of recordings stockpiled up that I need to go through; but I'm going to be moving soon and going through some big life changes; so while I'm in the process of that, there definitely won't be any new recordings, and I'm not sure if I'll be able to keep producing videos in that time frame.

Ideally I could try and build up a backlog of processed videos, but I tend to be behind schedule all the time anyway. These videos, while totally worth it, are a lot of work!!

So, I guess all I'm saying is yeah, thanks for sticking with me and enjoying this. It's been a blast, and I promise it'll only get bigger and dumber after I move across the country.

majormonotone posted:

Master Trainer is the Pokemon board game, of which we will at some point play. The Japanese Legend of Zelda board game, we will probably play. The Legend of Zelda: Master Quest, is a video game which is outside the scope of this LP. ;)

G'morning ya'll. Just tossing out that Friday's video, naturally, is late, because I had some issues with the script; and then upon fixing the script and doing another encode, I noticed another problem I had to fix; and this just kept happening. What SHOULD be the final encode is going now, and should be posted sometime Monday.

Yeah, I really wish ewie had explained that a bit better; just give us an idea of some general end goals (hey, having unconquered rooms is super important; hey, there are traps that will help with that) but also it's kind of a sneaky game, so... eh. We could give it another go in the future, especially there is (at least 1?) an expansion for it.

Keiya just took down FlamingRok, but does she stand a chance against majormonotone?

Also, a note: majormonotone had a slight problem with her recording where her cursor doesn't show up at all in her view. Sorry if that weirds you out as much as it does me, but I got used to it eventually!

Still, this was a fun match and rules were followed correctly almost always!

Tabletop Sim is on sale. Some great newer board games have been added to Workshop, including Star Wars Rebellion, a remake by Fantasy Flight of the old and not very good computer game of the same name. Get a buddy and play it, it's great.

They may not know the rules to starting the game, or follow the tournament sanctioned rules, but at least they followed the rules pretty well throughout the game.

This was probably the weirdest match I've ever seen. What the hell was Rok trying to do with that Charizard?

🚣RowboatMan: ❄️Freezing time🕰️ is an old P.I. 🥧trick...

Oh man, just played my first full gamein TTS (a friend and I played Sorry). It was very smooth, aside from a few Internet-related disconnects. However, I was surprised that I had to give her full access in order for her not to be a spectator (not that I minded), instead of being able to make her a player. What's the deal with that? I assume I'm missing something there. Also, there were only two colours, black and grey. Shouldn't there have been more?

The T
May 29, 2010

A sufficiently chaotic system is maximally fair.

Well, an LP thread is a bit of an odd choice for stopping in to ask general questions about a program, but, sure!

Gray and Black are not standard player colors. Gray is only for Spectators. Black is only for the GM, for games like D&D or a game where one player is allowed to see everyone's hands. You shouldn't normally use the Black player for a game like Sorry.

You also do not need to promote a player to let them move pieces, they just have to be assigned to a player color.

I would go into single player and try things out; changing a player's color is pretty self explanatory; just make sure you are zoomed out enough to see the places where the player's hands should be.

And if the Sorry module was actually set up with no hands, then 1. that's a pretty bad module, and 2. you'd have to add the hands, by choosing the Zones option on the left hand panel, then hands, then drawing them. For anything advanced like that, you might want to read up on other guides, though.
