you people are idiots and the regulations are to make sure you don't get abducted or raped by your driver and to make sure you aren't paying out of pocket or relying on the drivers cheapest possible liability insurance if you are hurt in an accident they caused guess which of these happened with uber drivers all of them

Uber has cut ties with eight drivers who have criminal records, as it attempts to win approval to pick up passengers at Los Angeles International Airport. The drivers, who have convictions including assault, DUI and possession of child pornography, were identified in recent weeks by L.A. Yellow Cab, which has been lobbying strenuously against allowing Uber and other ride-hailing services into the airport. In several cases, Uber was unaware of its drivers' records because its background checks go back only seven years.

There are a few parking lots in my city that are kind of the de facto u ER driver hangout spots, especially by the airports. Like 98% of the guys I see there are recent immigrants from the ME/Africa and either were cab drivers before uber killed their market or would have been cab drivers. They pretty much all believed Ubers marketing material on what their yearly income could be as full time drivers, which was based on when the per mile rate was 2.5x what it is now. A lot of these guys also bought new cars or financed through uber at insane interest. They're all pretty loving despondent about the way things are going, it's pretty sad to talk to them. And yes goons I know they're gullible or whatever but these are usually really recent immigrants from shithole countries so pretty much the easiest people for uber to rip off and take advantage of. That's why passengers are starting to notice that drivers give way less of a gently caress, like, why go out of your way to help a passenger when it's probably just some drunk white bitch whose going to rate you 1 star because it's surging and she's mad for 8 bucks after uber takes their cut.
