Pvp is already a much easier way to get dungeon skins and tokens than running dungeons, now that pvp will also drop stuff you can auction that people will need for legendaries there's no reason to ever do dungeons over esports for loot.

They really, really, really, want people to pvp. Next step will be anet devs calling your authorization numbers personally begging you to play it.

As everyone who has ever played fractals knows, Anet loves announcing features for fractals and then never implementing them. Don't worry, HoT will be no different! The Fractals leaderboards that they reset everyone's fractals levels for in 2013 and have been coming out "soon" ever since aren't coming out in HoT either, shocking everyone who was born yesterday. Also that legendary backpack won't be available either!

quote:

Fractal Dungeon Leaderboards
Back when we announced all the updates to Fractals for Heart of Thorns – the announce blog also discussed more information coming before HoT about leaderboards for Fractals. Our team of folks working on Fractal dungeons kept iterating on this concept and ultimately we have decided to make it something more involved (re: exciting) than our original plans which will extend our development a bit more. This also means you’ll be able to earn the new fractal backpack precursor, but a few of the components for the new legendary will come with this expanded future fractals feature.
As always, we’ll discuss features once they’re far enough along to share development details on; our Fractal Dungeon team will be back with more updates about this and other plans for Fractal Dungeons in the future: when it’s ready™.

This is the content they're "incentivizing" by removing cash rewards from dungeons.

This is all good news. The new zones always seemed empty, minigames were always locked, and I'd stopped caring about elite spec outside pvp because of the stupid grind.

So with the reduction that's only 4 of the new SUPER hero points to complete it if you had map complete before right?

The elite specs gave the classes access to things they were lacking previously. I've been feeling weirdly fatigued playing Heart of Thorns, and now I realize why.

Remember that one annoying vista in Dredgehaunt Cliffs? The one in a dredge mine, on a high suspended walkway that requires an unintuitive path to reach and is loaded up with angry dredge with launch attacks prepared to shove you off the edge? It feels like the majority of Heart of Thorns content is like this.

I don't mind having increased difficulty with enemies and navigation, but the increased difficulty doesn't let up. Areas that are simple to navigate are rare. One of my greatest joys in GW2 vanilla was map exploration, but in Heart of Thorns it just feels exhausting. Sometimes it feels like I'm going in circles in an attempt to figure out where basic points of interest markers are. The worst offender is Tangled Depths, where there's layers of navigation puzzles upon navigation puzzles obfuscating basic map events.

I think they overdid the map complexity.

Yeah, I don't disagree with all this, also I don't like big zergy map events so I haven't spent really any time at all in the new zones. Also they really went full Anet with "everything must have its own unique currency that doesn't go in the bank or wallet."

Shockingly, fractals have been a major let down. Again.

From what I've read Mai Trin at 100 doesn't hit anywhere near as hard as Mai Trin at 50 used to, but has way more hp. I've done fractals up to the 60s now and they've all been snoozefests compared to what 50 used to be. This is just the Fracataled updated making us grind out the same ranks again disguised a new way if we want to max out. But considering the rewards are so bad there's even less motivation to. The golden skins look worse than the regular ones imo. If you want a particular fractal skin you can just like do the 1-20 achieve anyway. Oh and fractal skins don't show up in the collection of course. And these rewards that were supposed to be moved from dungeons to fractals apparently got lost somewhere in between.

I don't really get why they couldn't have just used whatever they are making as raids and made them as new fractals instead, it would have kept it all together and the lesser group requirement would make it more accessible, but then again most of the decisions in HoT don't make much sense to me.

Ghostpilot posted:

To me it seemed like a great simulation of a F2P account.

Pretty much this is my reaction to HoT as a whole at this point. I finally feel like I'm playing an f2p mmo that is trying to get me to pay a monthly sub to ignore all the dumb grind I'd have to do otherwise, but that isn't even an option in GW2.

So I finished the first collection for Rodgort. (I unlocked all the first tier legendary collections, it makes you find little fun stuff while you're running around the game).

It was fun. You go around killing big things and then tossing their body parts into one of the flame legion's bonfires.

It rewards you with a piece that you need for crafting the first precusor, as well as the recipie for making the other things you need.

When you mouse over the recipe it says that you need either Huntsman, Weaponsmith, or Artificer at 450. Hey, cool, I thought that's handy, I'm on a 500 Weaponsmith. So I used it.

HAHA Just kidding only one one of the things can be done with any of the weapon crafting skills, the other parts can use only 450 Huntsman. It does not say this anywhere and the only way I know this is because I looked it up on the wiki after I couldn't find the recipes anywhere on my character's crafting lists.

This game man. :allears:

Although if I ever planned on actually making it I would probably be more. :argh:
