Hi I've been away for a while, are there still people playing this game? Is there a goon guild? The OP seems like it hasn't been updated in a few years, but maybe the game outlived the thread? Is worth coming back?

Just in time for HoT! So I'm happy about that. Can't wait to Chronomancer it up on Friday. We'll be able to just immediately start dumping hero points into the elite specs, right?

You can start dumping points into it, but even if you have world completion on the character you wont have enough to finish the track so you wont actually be able to get the higher tier traits until you've hosed around in the jungle for about 200 hero points.

Except now instead of being just camped by a champ that you can pull away or stealth past, the champ is actually the hero challenge, and also summons its own trash mobs, and in addition to being a mordrem champ, is also on a timer, so no matter how good you are at dodging you wont have the dps to whittle down the whole hp sponge alone. Plus, many of these are mastery-gated, for extra challenge.

Ok, revenant seems fun. Especially with gimmick zerg-support ventari build. Moving the tablet around on its 2-second cooldown makes runes with on healing skill effects seem fun, even if they're not strictly optimal. Really wish I could run Glint as the second legend, though.

Salvation + Retribution + Herald, Glint and Ventari legends, Minstrel gear, hammer and staff. gently caress you zerg, I'm healing you whether you like it or not.

The elite specs are a per-alt grind that actually does seem as long as the doom and gloomy people were fearing when they revealed how much they would cost. The mastery system is account-wide, but is somewhat back-loaded in that it's a pain to get your first few points, but that's once per account and get significantly easier once you get most of the major movement options.

Plus, in the much shorter but more common term, a lot of the jungle events themselves are pretty collect 10 bear asses -y, but that's nothing new compared to the core game.

What does the PvE endgame largely consist of these days, though? I know its a question that has been asked and answered in varying degrees since forever, but it sounds like Heart of Thorns now has raids. What reason is there to keep playing for a strict PvEer if they 100%ed the map and have completed their personal story?

In theory, there are Fractals of the Mists, dungeons (lol), and soon there will be raids. In practice, there is pretty princessing and alts.

Chronomancer is great for shatters, and made shatter builds strong in PvE too. You get alacrity on shatters (and from your wells, which are all strong, and from your shield phantasms), together with either quickness (pvp) or regenerated phantasms (pve) on shatter. Congratulations, 4-illusion Mind Wrack every 7.2 seconds.

After 3 years, my mesmer finally has a new outfit. This time in Cletus-mode, with no cultural, gemstore, or dungeon armour and without using a piece from the same set twice.

You can't lose tiers but you can lose progress towards the next tier, so he's tanking his MMR to be able to win a bunch of games consecutively and just hop into the next tier by cleaning house against newer players or whatever.

(You might be able to lose tiers at higher ranks, the rules change apparently.)

You can lose tiers at higher ranks, but never divisions, and 15 matches is well within the length of a win (or loss) streak before your MMR changes significantly if you play a lot.

Factions had Alliance Battles, and two legitimately fun PvP scenario things (Fort Aspenwood and Jade Quarry). Heart of Thorns had Stronghold. Mediocre would be a step up.

You don't lose pips if your party loses 4v5. Apparently you can't gain pips either if someone in your team leaves and you still win. Or if they just never connect and you win despite being 4v5 the entire match.

Honest question do you know what adventures are? Have you ever done one? You don't get the dungeon dailies for running around outside the door either. In fact, despite GW2 being a very casual game, most of the content does not actually reward you for just standing somewhere in its general vicinity without actually doing it.

The feature isn't new, it was one of the major new features they marketed HoT with, and it's very clearly marked on the map for anyone with the attention span to make the grand leap of independent thought between seeing something they don't recognise and hovering your mouse cursor over it to reveal a handy popup tooltip, which is how pretty much everything in the game is explained. You're not a casual, you're a miscarriage with hands and even then somehow manage to shame regular old puddles of failed cells just by associating them with your levels stupidity.

All the actual content and PvE/WvW access to the elite specialisations is max level only, but you get a character slot, an instant level 80 boost, and unlock revenants and access to the elite specs for PvP. If you PvP more than a small amount and think you'll stick with the game, and/or think revenants sound cool, buy HoT now. If not, wait until you hit 80 and reconsider.

As someone said, try warrior or guardian. Longbow is one of the best warrior weapons, and used for both support and dps builds. Guardians get both a longbow and a set of trap skills with their elite spec, and both are borderline overpowered levels of strong. Both classes also have popular builds with playstyles that are completely different from their shoot bows at things builds (of which there are many, for either class), in case you ever get bored of archery and want to try something else for a while without making a new character.

Supporting in GW2 is great because if someone dies, generally it is their own drat fault. Offhand in Wing 1 the only times people actively should be taking damage that I can think of are green circles and split phase on VG, tantrums on Gorseval, and on Sabetha... I'm pretty sure nothing, in fact. If someone takes damage outside of those things, it's generally a mistake, and everyone has enough built in healing to cover themselves unless they're making lots of mistakes. If you ever have someone get pissy that they went down in a raid, your first and final retort is "why were you taking that much damage?"

That isn't to say that as Druid you shouldn't feel some responsibility to keep your raid up, because you're basically the goalie of the raid and even if someone is a gibbering moron you generally have the heals to keep them alive. You just don't have to take poo poo from people the way you do sometimes in other games.

The best part about druiding is that you get to watch what other people are doing and see every time someone STANDS IN THE loving BLACK GOO FOR TEN SECONDS and only lives because of you.
