Some better formatting and that chart would be fine. It's just messy with that colour scheme and the area layout. A series of stacked columns would look 'fine'.

The order of the legend is an annoying quirk of PowerPoint/excel. The chart will be plotted bottom up by default (i.e. The first row will be at the bottom of the graph) whilst the legend is goes top-down (so the first row of data is used for the first legend entry).

e: JFC Japan. Can you not be weird as poo poo for like five minutes?

That inclusion is an assassination attempt. The octopi are basically made by mums for the small kids. Hot dogs are basically in line with New York style. 'Korea' dogs are also commonly available, but are known as 'American dogs'.

I would like to think that the hidden slice edge stays at a constant position throughout the death of the stack, but that’s giving way too much credit to whoever designed that turd.

That's exactly how it's designed. The creator clarified the point on Reddit. The bottom is meant to move like a needle, just showing the change in the ratio year-by-year.

Then why is it the opposite for the top pie on every single stack?

The top pie sets the standard for the stack, showing the initial proportions. The rest just show the change in m/f ratio.
