PLEASE CLAP
Yeah, playoffs are right now the following:

Clemson
Bama
B1G winner
Oklahoma

if Bama or Clemson lose, Ohio State gets in. If they both lose, I guess the winner of the PAC 12 gets in (or maybe the other way around since they seem to weight conference champions more).

Gut feeling (for the second time thanks for eating my post forums)

#1 Clemson #2 Bama #3 Iowa/Sparty winner (keeps Sooner from playing Cotton as underdog) #4 Sooner

If Clemson/Bama loses, Stanford prob gets in and committee will rank USC going into the P12 title game for justification.

If two of Clemson/Bama/Stanford lose, Ohio State might get in depending on where they put UNC going into this weekend.

If all three lose then lolololol gently caress it make it Oklahoma vs. the Big Ten WHICH IS WHAT IT SHOULD BE ANYWAY SINCE THE MOST GLORIOUS BIG TEN IS THE ONLY CONFERENCE DESERVING AND FURTHERMORE I

Week 13: Just ignore your problems they'll work themselves out in the end

ACC

Atlantic
pre:
Clemson 8-0, 12-0 ACCCG 8-0, 13-0
Florida State 6-2, 10-2
Louisville 5-3, 7-5
NC State 3-5, 7-5
Syracuse 2-6, 4-8
Wake Forest 1-7, 3-9
Boston College 0-8, 3-9
ACC Atlantic > SEC East, though that ain't a high bar to clear right now. FSU getting to 10 wins opens the door to an NY6 bowl at least.

Coastal
pre:
North Carolina 8-0, 11-1 ACCCG 8-0, 11-2
Pittsburgh 6-2, 8-4
Miami 5-3, 8-4
Duke 4-4, 7-5
Virginia Tech 4-4, 6-6
Virginia 3-5, 4-8
Georgia Tech 1-7, 3-9
At some point the committee, which has shown a willingness to forgive bad early losses, is going to have to give UNC their due, and if the Heels aren't top 10 come Tuesday then drat yo (and it means Clemson better win). Good on Frank for everything and proving that old people not understanding the ever-changing social norms will never not be hilarious. No 5-7 teams here so the ACC's got their roster and that's it.

pre:
Notre Dame 10-2
Called it. :smug:

Bowl Teams: Clemson, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Florida State, Pittsburgh, Miami, Louisville, NC State, Duke, Virginia Tech

Big Ten

East
pre:
Michigan State 7-1, 11-1 B1GCG 7-1, 12-1
Ohio State 7-1, 11-1
Michigan 6-2, 9-3
Penn State 4-4, 7-5
Indiana 2-6, 6-6
Rutgers 1-7, 4-8
Maryland 1-7, 3-9
Sparty takes care of business and now are win and in. Ohio State beat the hell out of Michigan enough that if the B1GCG is a blowout, they've got an argument for the Rose (and would prob make it over Iowa because :tenbux:). Good on Indiana for not falling apart and finally getting in. Rutgers mighta had a shot had they won, but at 4-8 they fall out and let's see how the bloodshed goes in Jersey.

West
pre:
Iowa 8-0, 12-0 B1GCG 8-0, 12-1
Northwestern 6-2, 10-2
Wisconsin 6-2, 9-3
Nebraska 3-5, 5-7
Minnesota 2-6, 5-7
Illinois 2-6, 5-7
Purdue 1-7, 2-10
Good on Northwestern for getting to 10 wins, and let's see if it gets them to a good Florida bowl and not shipped out to the Holiday (it won't). I'm un-striking the 5-7 teams because, well, they're not dead, and considering geography and fanbases and all at least one team from here is gonna go bowling, if not more.

Bowl Projected Teams: Iowa, Michigan State, Ohio State, Northwestern, Michigan, Wisconsin, Penn State, Indiana, Nebraska, Minnesota, Illinois

Big 12

pre:
Oklahoma 8-1, 11-1
Oklahoma State 7-2, 10-2
TCU 7-2, 10-2
Baylor 6-2, 9-2 TEX 7-2, 10-2
West Virginia 4-4, 7-4 @KST 5-4, 8-4
Texas Tech 4-5, 7-5
Texas 3-5, 4-7 @BAY 3-6, 4-8
Kansas State 2-6, 5-6 WVU 2-7, 5-7
Iowa State 2-7, 3-9
Kansas 0-9, 0-12
The committee has shown to be inconsistent and fickle, but there's no reason to drop Oklahoma out of the playoff. Falling from 3 to 4 to avoid them playing in the Cotton and being home favorites as underdogs is fair (unless they jump Bama for 2 and then it is fair), but there's no reason to keep them out. K-State is still alive but needs to upset the couchburners, and RIP Kansas rehire Mangino.

Projected Bowl Teams: Oklahoma, Baylor, Oklahoma State, TCU, West Virginia, Texas Tech

Pac-12

North
pre:
Stanford 8-1, 10-2 P12CG 8-1, 11-2
Oregon 7-2, 9-3
Washington State 6-3, 8-4
Cal 4-5, 7-5
Washington 4-5, 6-6
Oregon State 0-9, 2-10
God loves Stanford more than Notre Dame.

South
pre:
USC 6-3, 8-4 P12CG
Utah 6-3, 9-3
UCLA 5-4, 8-4
Arizona State 4-5, 6-6
Arizona 3-6, 6-6
Colorado 1-8, 4-9
USC fires their drunk coach and somehow ends up winning the South, which was supposed to be a murderer's row and ended up eating itself alive and spitting itself back out.

Bowl Teams: Stanford, Oregon, USC, Utah, UCLA, Washington State, Cal, Washington, Arizona State, Arizona

SEC

East
pre:
Florida 7-1, 10-2 SECCG 7-1, 10-3
Georgia 5-3, 9-3
Tennessee 5-3, 8-4
Vanderbilt 2-6, 4-8
Kentucky 2-6, 5-7
Missouri 1-7, 5-7
South Carolina 1-7, 3-9

With how bad they've looked in the past month, it's more than likely that Bama will be punished for not slaughtering the Gators then Florida would get credit for beating the Tide. The Sugar Bowl's not even in Florida's grasp right now. Kentucky and Mizzou have changes, Mizzou's is better due to APR and Pinkel's Last Ride, whereas UK's #1 in hoops and that's all that really matters in Lexington.

West
pre:
Alabama 7-1, 11-1 SECCG 7-1, 12-1
Ole Miss 6-2, 9-3
LSU 5-3, 8-3
Arkansas 5-3, 7-5
Texas A&M 4-4, 8-4
Mississippi State 4-4, 8-4
Auburn 2-6, 6-6
Bama wins twice as LSU doesn't fire Les Miles and Saban cackles with his dark energy hail lucifer. Ole Miss is looking Sugar bound unless Florida discovers how to play football.

Bowl Teams: Alabama, Florida, Ole Miss, Georgia, LSU, Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi State, Texas A&M, Auburn, Kentucky, Missouri

American

East
pre:
Temple 7-1, 10-2 AACCG 7-1, 10-3
South Florida 6-2, 8-4
UConn 4-4, 6-6
Cincinnati 4-4, 7-5
East Carolina 3-5, 5-7
UCF 0-8, 0-12
Temple wins and now will head to H-Town, and if they pull the upset 11-2 should be enough to get the Owls into the NY6. Cincy denies ECU a sixth win and we'll see if a mediocre southeast bowl needs a mediocre southeast team to fill it.

West
pre:
Houston 7-1, 11-1 AACCG 7-1, 12-1
Navy 7-1, 9-2 ARMY 7-1, 10-2
Memphis 5-3, 9-3
Tulsa 3-5, 6-6
Tulane 1-7, 3-9
SMU 1-7, 2-10
Well Memphis murdered the poo poo out of SMU in a fine sendoff for their coach. Navy's got Army and then the Military Bowl.

Bowl Teams: Houston, Navy, Temple, Memphis, South Florida, Cincinnati, UConn, Tulsa, East Carolina

C-USA
East
pre:
Western Kentucky 8-0, 10-2 CUSACG 8-0, 11-2
Marshall 6-2, 9-3
MTSU 6-2, 7-5
Old Dominion 3-5, 5-7
FIU 3-5, 5-7
FAU 3-5, 3-9
Charlotte 0-8, 2-10
Old Dominion loses to FAU and most likely keeps C-USA from getting a sixth team, good job costing everyone like $18,000 jerks. WKU hosts the CUSACG.

West
pre:
Southern Miss 7-1, 9-3 CUSACG 7-1, 9-4
Louisiana Tech 6-2, 8-4
Rice 3-5, 5-7
UTEP 3-5, 5-7
UTSA 3-5, 3-9
North Texas 1-7, 1-11
Good on Southern Miss going down and putting a hurting on LaTech to win the division. Rice and UTEP have five wins but neither's an attractive option.

Bowl Projected Teams: Western Kentucky, Southern Miss, Marshall, Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee, Old Dominion, Rice, UTEP

Independents

pre:
BYU 9-3
Army 2-9 @NAVY 2-10
BYU's playing basketball in Hawai'i during Christmas so it makes sense to head there over Vegas this time around, which means they won't.

Bowl Teams: BYU

MAC

East
pre:
Bowling Green 7-1, 9-3 MACCG 7-1, 10-3
Ohio 5-3, 8-4
Akron 5-3, 7-5
Buffalo 3-5, 5-7
Kent State 2-6, 3-9
Miami (OH) 2-6, 3-9
UMass 2-6, 3-9

pre:
Northern Illinois 6-2, 8-4 MACCG 6-2, 8-5
Toledo 6-2, 9-2
Western Michigan 6-2, 7-5
Central Michigan 6-2, 7-5
Ball State 2-6, 3-9
Eastern Michigan 0-8, 1-11
In case you didn't read the last update, we have a four way tie for first and that is the perfect scenario for MAC THUNDERDOME! Here's how MAC THUNDERDOME works!!!!!!!!:

-There are two games going on concurrently, in this case NIU vs. CMU from one set of hashmarks to the outside and Toledo-WMU from the other. The middle of the field is No Man's Land, you may enter at any time but no penalties will be called there.
-Consequently, if someone wanted to enter No Man's Land and interfere with the other game.....
-As we'll probably have several injured/dead players in No Man's Land, a Zamboni with a plow in the front will patrol No Man's Land and push any bodies out of the killingplaying fields. As it is considered part of the playing field, said Zamboni can be used as a screen/weapon/ride/etc...
-A live representative of each team's mascot will be allowed onto the field. That means NIU's awesome Huskie dog, a horse for WMU, a Native American for CMU, and a bunch of live ammunition for Toledo.
-Every now and then a red white and blue football is tossed onto the field. This is the moneyball and if you score on this play it counts double.
-Oh yeah, the Zamboni has a single upright with a bell attached to it. If you ring the bell with the football you get a point.
-As in traditional MACtion rules, first to 100 wins. This means if you want to try and kick a GW field goal and now need 9 men to block 33, well.....
-30 minutes after MAC THUNDERDOME ends, the winner will take on Bowling Green in the MAC Championship Game.

This would be broadcast on PPV and either be the greatest game ever and/or have several officials arrested for war crimes. I wish it was real.

Bowl Teams: Bowling Green, Northern Illinois, Toledo, Ohio, Western Michigan, Central Michigan, Akron, Buffalo

Mountain West

Mountain
pre:
Air Force 6-2, 8-4 MWCCG 6-2, 8-5
Boise State 5-3, 8-4
New Mexico 5-3, 7-5
Colorado State 5-3, 7-5
Utah State 5-3, 6-6
Wyoming 2-6, 2-10
Air Force loses to New Mexico and thus will head to San Diego for the MWCCG. Four way tie for second, which doesn't set up MWC Thunderdome because they don't play in any domes.

West
pre:
San Diego State 8-0, 9-3 MWCCG 8-0, 10-3
Nevada 4-4, 6-6
San Jose State 4-4, 5-7
Fresno State 2-6, 3-9
UNLV 2-6, 3-9
Hawai'i 0-8, 3-10
SDSU runs the table and they'll host Air Force. SJSU has five wins and might have some appeal in a southwest bowl, maybe. Rainbows, bitch.

Bowl Teams: San Diego State, Air Force, Boise State, New Mexico, Colorado State, Utah State, Nevada, San Jose State

Sun Belt
pre:
Arkansas State 7-0, 8-3 TXST 8-0, 9-3
Appalachian State 6-1, 9-2 @USA 7-1, 10-2
Georgia Southern 6-1, 8-3 GAST 7-1, 9-3
Georgia State 4-3, 5-6 @GASO 4-4, 5-7
South Alabama 3-4, 5-6 APP 3-5, 5-7
New Mexico State 3-4, 3-8 @ULM 3-5, 3-9
Louisiana-Lafayette 3-4, 4-7 TROY 4-4, 5-7
Idaho 3-5, 4-8
Troy 2-5, 3-8 @ULL 3-5, 4-8
Texas State 2-5, 3-8 @ARKST 3-5, 5-7
Louisiana-Monroe 0-7, 1-11 NMSU 0-8, 1-12
Three teams in as ArkySt wins a share of the Fun Belt, three more kinda with chances and an upset would really help the conference out. It won't happen because App and GASO are good and GAST/USA aren't.

Bowl Projected Teams: Arkansas State, App State, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, South Alabama, Louisiana-Lafayette

# of currently eligible teams: 76
# of projected teams: 76 - 10 (ACC, P12, SEC) 8 (B1G, AAC) 7 (MAC, MWC) 6 (B12) 5 (C-USA) 3 (SB) 1 (Indep)

College Football Playoff

Orange Bowl: #1 Clemson (ACC Champs) vs. #4 Oklahoma (Big 12 Champs)
Cotton Bowl: #2 Alabama (SEC Champs) vs. #3 Michigan State (Big Ten Champs)

Sooners win in dominating fashion and make it easy. Clemson and Bama are in provided massive brainfarts don't happen (and the SEC is out if that occurs), while Sparty/Iowa is win and in. Simple enough if everything goes to plan.

Peach Bowl: Iowa (At-Large) vs. Florida State (At-Large)
Sugar Bowl: Ole Miss (SEC rep) vs. Baylor (Big 12 rep)
Fiesta Bowl: Notre Dame (At-Large) vs. Houston (Group of 5 rep)
Rose Bowl: Ohio State (B1G Rep) vs. Stanford (Pac-12 Champs)

Ole Miss takes over the SEC's spot in the Sugar with Florida having fallen apart. Baylor pounds Texas and that's enough to put them over Oklahoma State. Iowa's loss keeps them from the Rose Bowl again as Ohio State gets the berth where they face Stanford, Pac-12 being the ones left out after all. Iowa goes to the Sugar and faces Florida State, who's late wins put them over Oklahoma State, and Notre Dame gets the Group of 5 rep Houston in the Fiesta. Fairly drama-free unless you count Noles over Cowpokes and even that's not a hill to die on.

So there's 14 teams at or projected to go 5-7 and we've got four spots to fill, including a very lucrative and selective Pinstripe Bowl with it's $2m payout. By APR, here's how they stack up:

Minnesota
San Jose State
Illinois
Rice

Nebraska goes first and with the Big Ten already having a tie-in to the Pinstripe they gladly slide in there and keep the payout in-house. Mizzou is next and they head south to the Camelia for Pinkel's sendoff. Detroit might have made sense and the Quick Lane, but Minnesota is third in line and makes more geographical sense. SJSU is fourth, but we already have a MWC team there and thus they get passed over. Illinois is next and while they're not intriguing, Rice is up next and they're even less of a draw. Kentucky is way down in the APR and behind the other eligible teams so the Big Ten ends up sending all three of their 5-7 teams, giving them eleven total and tying the SEC for the most.

Depending on the rankings on Tuesday I might run this back, and do a disaster scenario where Clemson/Bama/Stanford all lose and how that would shake out, just for shits and giggles.

One thing you missed: Kansas State will be 5-7 in your scenario with their 576 APR. That ties them with Missouri and likely sends the fightin Bill Snyders bowling.

Unlikely, in the same way that it wouldn't have been Navy had the Shippers won (even though I screwed that up earlier). Temple/Iowa to the Fiesta, ND/FSU to the Peach.

TTU vs A&M in the Texas Bowl should be a lot of fun. There isn't a real rivalry like OU vs Texas, but more like a classless grudge match. Really looking forward to chuckin' tortillas into A&M section.

quote:

The Red Raider-Aggie relationship has had its bumps over the years, but one of the bigger strains occurred when Texas Tech fans tore down the goal posts 10 years ago.

Hundreds of Red Raider fans stormed the football field and tore down the Jones Stadium goal posts after Tech beat Texas A&M 12-0 on Nov. 3, 2001.

The fans carried a goal post into a section where A&M fans were sitting and tried to force it into the stands. An angry brawl ensued.

Mike McKinney, the father of an A&M football player and Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s chief of staff at the time, was punched in the face. While at first believed to be a Tech fan, it turned out to be another A&M fan.

But before video proved it wasn’t a Tech fan, McKinney blasted Tech, calling the act “absolute

foolishness,” according to previous newspaper accounts.

I don't think there's any way Ohio state gets in over one of the conference champs even with one loss. I think the ACC champ is in no matter who it is. I think Stanford gets in if they win the PAC12 and Florida beats Bama.

I was looking at bowl predictions and a lot of people have us playing Northwestern in the Outback Bowl.

I know next to nothing about Northwestern except that they're ranked. Anyone here that can fill me in? I'd like to know how we match up.

Usually I'd say you'd be able to roll over them no problem. Hell, usually I'd be surprised they made it to a bowl...

They're pretty scrappy this year though. I mean, they did beat Stanford.

Not a spectacular offense, they almost never pass the ball. Very solid defense. Got blown out by Michigan and Iowa, but finished with 5 wins in a row.

I'm sure Mangles could give you the best summary but basically they have one of the worst QBs in Division I and a defense that keeps every game tight enough to win (except for those two blowouts). They knocked off Stanford in Week 1 but they got their asses beat by Iowa and Michigan and avoided playing Sparty or Ohio State this year.

This is definitely gonna happen unless they soften their "we're just gonna follow the committee rankings" thing. I miss the old rule where "number of years since last rose bowl" was a tiebreak :(

Guess we just gotta go win the national title instead.

The NCAA is meeting today to figure out exactly what to do with the 5-7 teams.

The current policy is only top five 5-7 teams in APR get to be eligible, and any bowl that does/can not take one of those teams will be instead cancelled.

C. Everett Koop

The best case is it'll be some combo of APR scores/name value/geographical considerations since no one wants to travel across the country to see their dumb 5-7 team get their rear end beat/coaching stability/general appeal/who the gently caress knows. Basically, it's a way to get the Nebraska's of the world, good programs in a down year, to a bowl instead of the Kent State's of the world, where they draw not a drat thing.

In theory this would also be a chance to pump the brakes on bowls for a bit, but with UAB/Coastal Carolina set to join that frees up 24 more wins and that can make the difference between a drought and a surplus of bowl teams. Add in that midweek bowls beat whatever ESPN has planned otherwise for those nights and I hope you're ready for 4 and Bowl at some point in the future. At least that might get us closer to a 128-team tournament, because if you want me to watch Eastern Michigan play football put them against Alabama or someone and tell me it matters, like how you couldn't get me to watch someone like Maryland/Cal basketball from a neutral site in November but hold it in March and I'll break my back for it.

@NCAAFootball Without enough 6-6 teams, remaining bowl bids will be filled by 5-7 teams based on highest Academic Progress Rate.

And from ESPN:

quote:

985 -- Nebraska (5-7)
976 -- Missouri (5-7)
976 -- Kansas State (5-6)
975 -- Minnesota (5-7)
975 -- San Jose State (5-7)
973 -- Illinois (5-7)
973 -- Rice (5-7)

Kansas State will be in a unique position Saturday. A win against West Virginia would make the Wildcats bowl eligible. But if they lose, since K-State would be tied for the second-best APR among 5-7 teams, the Wildcats would appear to be in line for one of the bowls needing a 5-7 team.

Northwestern lost a lot of games in the 1970s and 1980s, so you should beat them easily.

e: Here's the actual deal with Northwestern. They have one of the best defenses in the country, with a senior-laden D-line and an excellent secondary. The offense is cro-magnon Big Ten poo poo. Quarterback Clayton Thorson (I know!) is a freshman and the coaches don't trust him at all. They average less than 140 passing yards a game. The best receiver is a "superback" TE. Thorson can run and will but he also will attempt to take off to his right every time his primary receiver is covered. The entire offense is giving the ball to Justin Jackson and punting then hoping for a pick six or fumble recovery. If Northwestern gets the lead, Pat Fitzgerald will do all but kneel for three possessions and punt starting in the second half. Northwestern has its 4th 10-win season in the history of the program and have never won more, but fans still want OC Mick McCall fired. They have 8 wins by a touchdown or less this season. If Northwestern falls behind, they are utterly hosed. Northwestern is probably punching above its weight in a bowl game and they probably won't win, but the defense is legit.
