So I'm finally done with revising Baldwin on the Subterranean Animists. I've got a character that can reliably murder my teammates at the very least. It looks like we'll see RIGHT AWAY how medium/small stacks against Largehuge with the new rules. Also - Is there a test character generator in the works? I apparently can't be assed to do the math and manually equip fighters...

Compared to the 1v1's, these logs contain some really great imagery, once you parse that Grabbing someone's "Lower back teeth" with their "upper arm" is basically a one-armed choke hold from behind. So that fight basically ended with Panty providing said choke hold, while trying to pull Albrik's leg off with the free hand.... And Dory stabbing away at Albrik's face the whole time. Fun stuff. General Question: Do our fighters gain skill through the course of a fight? I know everything is reset at the end, but could a really long, drag-out fight leave a fighter significantly more skillful for another opponent? Would a fighter with zero armor skill eventually wear that armor a bit easier as the fight goes on?

He barely missed anything in the last two rounds, but he wasted a bunch of swings against helms and big skulls, which results in bruising. It's a strength problem. If you have enough strength for a platinum hammer, you'd probably be crushing skulls with your silver hammer. Your best bet might be something unusual like Steel + Skill. Lighter but more rigid? This might be a My Dad question.

I gotta say, being disarmed is a big problem when you can't bite effectively. Thank god for Quarf's sure grip and Braun's genetic condition. Should my iron gauntlets have stopped the lash to the lower forearm? I didn't even see a mention of armor in the combat log.

my dad posted:People tend to forget that copper is heavy enough to be good blunt weapon material, and bad enough at protecting you that it's only better than leather at blocking some sharp copper weapons. And it costs twice as much as leather. Pretty much the only copper armor I'd ever buy is a copper cap to give at least basic head protection, and maaaaaybe a copper mail shirt on a minotaur+ sized creature, but not really. If you buy full body copper armor, you'll need a lot of armor skill to make up for it, and at that point you might as well buy iron instead. I stand by copper mail as a good teeth/fang deterrent. I'm pretty sure a Molemarian can bite straight through leather.

I'm impressed that just about any build - even Wrestling Yetis - can perform well in this version of DF arena. What is even more impressive is that just about every team will find its weakness. My team's Achilles heel would be a pack of leather clad Elves with warhammers, for instance. Elf-hammer squad would lose badly to Molemarians, which would probably lose to goblins with axes or some such. Most teams are less homogeneous, preferring to mix races and weapon/armor types, but then you have the issue where a gladiator will pair against the worst possible opponent. Also, while seeing the kill leaders is awesome, I'd like to see the disablement leaders. Fighters that cause an opponent to "pass out from pain" are arguably the 'best', even if they don't get the kill shot. (Don't actually cull this information, it would be a pain in the rear end.)

Until the big playoff point infusion, being big is a liability. Once they get points to throw around, here you go. Every member of Go Big added some amount of iron armor to their gladiators. Hobbes went from a two shot kill to the goddamn Terminator. I expected them to weapon up or skill up. Instead they countered us perfectly.

Postmortem time for Baldwin: He has the following equipment. Iron Spear Oak Wood Shield Iron Helm Leather Armor Iron Mail Shirt Leather Leggings Iron Gauntlets Steel Low Boots He has the following skills. Level 5 Fighting (Proficient) Level 10 Spear (Accomplished) Level 4 Dodging (Skilled) Level 3 Shield (Competent) Level 2 Armor (Adequate) Baldwin has 134 points currently available to spend. The only change for the playoffs was 5 additional points in Spear and 2 Dodging. I really expected patchwork armor at best from the opposition. HUBRIS He would have had exactly enough points for a Steel Spear and Adamantine Gauntlets in round 2. Had I reversed that order, things might have gone differently.

Human 4 bites Dwarf 4 in the head, but the attack is deflected by Dwarf 4's small iron helm! Minotaur 5 grabs Dwarf 4 by the fifth toe, right foot with her right upper arm! Drawn and quartered by the Helmets. For a laugh, follow Dusseldwarf (Dwarf 6). She loses a spear hand early on, but is somehow allowed to mount and smash Krog in the head with a wooden shield for over a thousand lines.
