What if you could make humans literally incapable of hatred with no other effects?
Rule by psychopaths who still have a dispassionate lust for power, but without the hatred needed for the occasional revolution against them.

What if the Torres Strait had a land bridge?

Presumably mass suicide in Panama while Suez starts importing massive amounts of (now more accessible) cocaine.
All the coca in Peru would die at that latitude though, which means Central Africa or Indochina would probably take over growing it.

Argentina would start a territory war with South Africa over the Prince Edward Islands.

And the Sasol slurry process would be profitable with out at that price, so South Africa would be a petrostate and Montana would have gone ahead with that Sasol contract to build plants there.

NASA would have kept on sending up the same outdated shuttles until one of the other ones did.

What if the guy who broke the Nazis' codes in WW2 was gay.
I don't know what the Polish attitude towards gay rights was back then. IIRC homosexual activity was legal since the 30s (except during the period of occupation) with the same age of consent as heterosexual activity, but it is very likely that he would have faced some unique challenges from the society of the time. Depending on his desire to conform, he may not have had a wife and child back in Poland, so it may pushed him down the priority list to travel back home after the war was over.

Time to stock up on theophylline and theobromine?

I can't think of much that is broad spectrum toxic against reptiles that isn't also poisonous to humans and important mammals.

What if we'd kept wepman and wifman as in the Old English recorded at Lindisfarne instead of man and woman, and had man being gender neutral?

IIRC the one guy that survived was an officer who left the safety perimeter to smoke a cigarette behind a concrete bunker. I may be confusing that with another Soviet rocket disaster though.

Smoking saves lives! :confuoot:
