Gen. Smedly Butler assumes emergency powers in Washington, press is informed that FDR has taken ill and will resign from the Presidency. By Butler's death in 1940 the United States has occupied most of northern Mexico and Cuba is now the 49th state, while America's Japanese and German allies launch a joint invasion of the Soviet Union, assisted by the forces of Frances' Petain government. In Britain Prime Minister Winston Churchill losses a vote of none-confidence in the House following a distastrous British attack on neutral Norway. Britain makes peace with Germany and a year later joins its war against the USSR as a junior partner under the leadership of a National Unity government lead by Prime Minister (later Lord Protector of the Commonwealth) Oswald Mosley.
