Plucky Brit posted:Go to Germany. The autobahns have a minimum speed but no maximum. You have a speed limit between 100(km/h) and 120 on most of the autobahn. There are only some parts where you have no limit (but if you're faster than 130 and crash with someone driving below 130 you're at full fault insurance-wise, if you survive). There is a speed minimum but it's like 60 or something. Just saying so no one thinks the speed signs at the autobahn are the minimum you have to drive.

SLOSifl posted:The schadenfreude is on the TV show. The balloons, their entire demeanor, all of it is almost painful given the guest of honor is really trying to will herself over the last hump toward death. It's the "You have 3 children, 12 grand-children, 20 great-grand-children and 15 great-great-grand-children"-part that makes me sad. I watched one of my grandmothers die in a retirement home while I was 5-15 years old, visiting every year to see her loosing more and more of herself. It was horrible. The thing I took away from her 4 sons - all with families, raised as fine Christians - was: Old people are a bother and they don't need a happy live with their family anyway because they will die soon. Sorry for the

Data Graham posted:I mean let's be real here, schadenfreude literally only means deriving joy from suffering. We only apply the "because they deserved it" modifier around here because otherwise we'd be sadistic assholes. But it's hardly a necessary condition. As a German, i respectfully disagree. Let me try to explain. A person getting hit in the face with a pie on a TV show is funny. A person getting hit in the face with a pie after they boasted about being the best pie-avoider in the world is Schadenfreude. A random bystander getting hit in the face with a pie by a stranger is neither.

No Schadenfreude here, person gets severely burned in restaurant when waitress refills BBQ grill or a heating thingy, nsfw nms etc.: https://i.makeagif.com/media/6-10-2015/2WAsLr.gif

"Hey Morty, I discovered a dimension you might like!" W....why...what's in there? "You are like, *burp* kind of boring, and there are people in this dimension standing in line at a bad fast food place or even driving for hours to get a sauce a cartoon mentioned." Aww, geese Rick, I may suck, my life may suck, but I'm not that boring. Can you delete that one from the portal gun? "Sure thing, Morty!"

As a German, I..... quite like this video, especially from 0:43 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pk8g86S8CRY&t=43s I'm...sorry, I don't want to derail, just "inform" you of an important difference: Self-defense laws in Germany are different, because you are not expecting every-loving-one to have a deadly weapon with easy-mode on them. I never was afraid of being shot in Germany in my life. First gun experience: Kid in other 5th grade played with dads weapons. The story was it was a gun with blanks (Schreckschusspistole) and he put it on his ear, pretending to shoot himself. And then pressure to the ear something killed him. Maybe that was just the story for us kids. But he was definitely dead. Second gun experience: 2 years ago or something 5 towns over the owner of a Sportwettenbüro, Sports gambling thing, was shot on the street in the night. That's it. Otherwise I never heard from anyone I know (or someone that knows someone that knows someone) about a gun related death. Or even a stabbing. Making deadly weapons illegal for everyone to "just carry around" and restrict access to the most deadly ones has quite a nice effect, like, for feeling safe. Come to Frankfurt, I'll show you around. At 3am in the red light district. We can start trouble with dudes on the street or even some Türstehers if you want. We then will be asked to leave or may catch a beating. But we won't get shot. Maybe i can start a tourism thing here under that premise........

That doesn’t mean I’m going to assume that nobody ever gets shot or stabbed in a fight or home invasion. Uh, I think I forgot to clarify that my gun experiences were that! Like, that's it. I found a more toy-like gun with blanks in my grandfathers drawers after he died, but otherwise I don't even know anyone owning a (real) gun. Or came in contact with one during my whole life. And yes knives exist and recently some dude in a skyscraper broke a window and threw like 5 knives a second into a crowd and I think over 50 people died. But that's freedom I get behind, because I need to cut onions.
