In Carroll's defense, Marshawn had been pretty terrible at scoring from the 1-yard line, and passes from the 1-yard line almost never get picked off. Plus the Pats would have been expecting the run. It was a mix of an iffy playcall and a really phenomenal clutch play from Butler. Still, it was a hilarious mistake.

Plus you get invested in the players, the news, the fanbase, etc. Sports fandom is hard to explain to people that don't feel it.
