If you want to blast fighters get the particle laser turret, just two MK1s will destroy any fighter in the first system from full shields and health. They will also decimate non-fighters once their shields go down. Using lasers feels like cheating.

I've made it to the second system and it seems that more missions types and random encounters have appeared. I was forcibly dropped out of warp in a random encounter, and there was a mission that had about a billion fighters that all blew me up with their missiles even though the risk was low. :argh:

Is there a way to stop my ship from randomly slowing down during warp? Thought at first it was distance to nearby stellar objects but that doesn't seem to be it :(
You'll slow down if you get anywhere near objects even if they don't show up on your radar. More annoying are the billions of space rocks that keep stopping me for two seconds before I can warp again.

What's the exclamation mark over stations on the map indicate? Is it just that there's some newsworthy special effect on them?
Hover over it and there will be colored text in the information box telling you what's happening. Usually it's something like a boom that effects the prices, but sometimes it's a war or an invasion or something.

So I was flying around and ran across a mysterious signal. I hit E to hack it, but must have double tapped in my impatience because I immediately failed a QTE, Did I mess my self out of something?

No, they are randomly generated and just give you a random mission somewhere else in the system.. I've seen a dead drop, shows all bounties in the system, and shows a place for mining. Nothing interesting. I thought I found an interesting one as it was surrounded by Korian ships, but it just told me about a great place to mine.

I've got 13 hours in the game and I've not seen a special crate. :(

So uh... I took a delivery mission. It turned out to be the same destination as the next story mission to talk to researcher (still first sector).

A zillion loving capitol ships are around the loving place now. I was ducking in and out of the station for repairs while wittling them down until the largest one was basically camping where I'd spawn out of. Then it made me pick up nuts and bolt instead of dock, then it let me dock barely before I die. I repair, leave.... and I explode instantly.

Hell of a way to have your first death, yeeeesh. What the gently caress happened? I never got intercepted on the delivery trip itself, what the gently caress did it do spawn every single enemy capitol ship it forgot to send after me along the way in front of the place?

EDIT: The real hell of it was I was winning (if incurring multiple repair bills) despite being just in the second light ship vs at least 7 enemy ships plus fighters, until they resorted to spawn camping :v:

Edit Two: Oh the merchant guild has a crime wave status and now trying to leave is basically suicide because I got a dozen fighters and a few missile corvettes 10 feet from where it spits you out without refilling your deflectors or boosters welp :v:

If you dock and undock enough times very quickly you'll appear very far away from the station.

"Well, I may as well try this Escort mission since it's got a voiced NPC asking me to do it"

*can't slave for a full minute after first ambush because I don't want to pick up contraband*

Well... uh.

*Escorted ship flies directly at sun ejecting us from warp*

uuuuuh...

*literaly over 3 minutes pass with ship slowly zigzagging before it enters warp*

FINALLY! *exits warp immediatly because they tilted towards sun*

:suicide: Yes, we get it. The sun is between you and where you want to go, you gently caress.

This should be worth way more than +20 Merc guild rep.

EDIT: "Smooth sailing so far, keep your fingers crossed" t:mad:

The last escort mission I did failed because the escrotee was trying to find a path through a planet. Instead of going around it decided to just turn in a circle endlessly until I got angry and quit the game. I also get really angry when I drop out of warp because a space rock was in the way and then I can warp again two seconds later.

There's an easy way to fix the escort missions; instead of you having to follow the AI, the AI follows you. When you get dropped out of warp by enemies just have the escortee be a regular dumb escort AI that wants to fight with everything so you can't just bypass everything by running away.
