I'm dropping republic wireless for google fi and it was really easy to move over. The number port took about 15 minutes. Updating this nexus 6 from the shipped version of lollipop to marshmallow on the other hand is taking hours. Fi is about $5 more per month but I don't have to rely on the provider for android updates and so far it's been a better experience. I basically needed a service with wifi calling and wanted a nexus phone so I guess I'm set now.

I've been on google fi for just over a week and I still got the fi branded lego set holiday gift. Pretty cool! At first I figured it was some off-brand lego but the pegs on the bricks all say fi so they actually had custom molds made and everything. I mean, it's still off-brand lego but it's Fi branded.

I haven't had many problems on 6.0.1 on Fi with the Nexus 6 (which I also got on the black friday amazon deal). The most recent was one where the Play Store kept telling me Background Data was off and it needed to be on for the Play Store to work. It was on, it was just bugged, but clearing cache and data for the play store (as well as force stopping it) fixed it up. Other than occasional bluetooth weirdness it's been pretty solid. I'm on build MMD29S.

Google Fi then works and it pushes me an update for Android 6. I download it and when it reboots it runs for maybe 1/5th of the bar before it throws an error. Mine has been fine on Marshmallow and I've only had it since December. Maybe your phone has a hardware problem?

When I was in a convention center for PAX South, the T-Mobile connection was stronger so my phone tried to use it primarily but it was horribly lagged out and basically unusable because of all the other nerds also using their phones. Using the Signal Spy app with its dialer codes allowed me to force it over to Sprint which worked a lot better despite not having as many bars.

Last week I used SignalSpy to switch my connection manually due to spotty reception at home (internet and power were out due to trees down and sprint was handling the bad connection better than T-Mobile, which my phone preferred to stay on). Today I tried to get to the same dialer codes and found they're only in SignalSpy Pro which is $2. I bought it because there's a definite need for it sometimes, but it kind of sucks that they moved a useful feature from the stock app to the paid version.

Uthor posted:You can set up the buttons in the notification to switch to different carriers. When you tap them, it copies the code to your clipboard and opens the dialer. Paste the code and it switches carriers. That's how I've been doing it with the free version. I had that with the free version until I tried it today where it became unavailable. Switching to Pro works for me since the non-rooted dialer codes work the same and there's more of them now (including US Cellular and Auto as well as Sprint and T-Mobile and "Next" like before), it just seemed like the option to switch for free vanished recently, even though it's not mentioned on the "what's new" for the 7/27 update.

Any thoughts on how to shortcut this process? I think I'm just SOL until Google unlocks my account? If you dunked your phone in water and only left it in some rice overnight, it's still going to be super wet inside and you shouldn't try turning it on. You'd do best to put it in with some silica gel or something way more absorbent in a sealed bag for longer. It may also just be fried. I'd consider disassembling it to get all the moisture out but obviously that will require a bit of work. There's a website called ifixit that has a lot of guides for different phones. I'd call google fi support and see if they can authenticate you another way over the phone since I'd imagine wrecking a phone isn't unusual: Project Fi/Customer service 855-836-3987 They'll probably require a lot more information since your two factor won't work.

I didn't realize until I started signing up for Fi that it was so tied to GV, and I'd like to run my game plan past this thread before I do anything stupid: That's similar to my setup (except for not having a child). I have google voice tied to one of my google accounts and Fi to a different one. The only downside to that setup is that you can't use the Google Fi number as the google voice cell phone number to be tied to. It still gives me notifications for texts and calls via the google voice app on the phone, though, so it's not a huge deal. I have a third number that I've just been using Ting for because it usually gets a couple of texts a month and I rarely leave the house with it, so it's typically 3 or 6 bucks, but the second line on Fi makes more sense for full usage.

I'm considering the non-5g version because it's 5.8" vs 6.2" but both seem way too big. The pixel one is a little big as it is at 5". I owned a Nexus 6 before the Pixel and while I liked the Pixel overall, I thought it could be a little bit bigger. I know that the Nexus 6 made my Nexus 7 tablet less useful since it felt large enough to watch youtube or streams, but the pixel feels a little small for it. The only reason I didn't get the Pixel XL was because I bought mine as scratch and dent from woot for a couple hundred bucks knowing I'd have to fix it myself (and I did replace the battery, and broke the screen doing it, so then I had to replace that, too). They didn't have the XL on that sale. So after the Nexus 6, I know I like larger phones, and I found the main downside was that it takes longer to get it out of jeans pocket. However, I also got into wearing smart watches while I owned the Nexus 6. I don't think it was a consequence of the larger phone but it does help to see if it is worthwhile to get my phone out to take or reject a call, or see who a text or email was from and get the title of emails. I also like using it as a paired device for smart lock and seeing the weather on my wrist.

I got the Pixel 4a 5G today and it's interesting that despite being about the same screen size as the Nexus 6, it's smaller. Most of that is due to the bezel being almost nonexistant, but also it's 2340x1080 vs. 2560x1440 from the Nexus 6. They're about the same height but the Pixel 4a 5G is like 2 3/4" across vs. a little over 3" for the Nexus 6. I think that will make it easier to get into and out of a pocket, but it won't have the same native resolution as the 27" monitor on my PC. Sacrifices must be made, I guess.

I got the Spigen tough armor case which came in today, and while it does bulk it up a little the phone is still just a little wider than the Pixel 1, just tall! So far it's working well, and the weird bug with the Pebble Time smart watch eating its battery with the Pixel 1 (post android 9) doesn't happen when it's synced to the 4a 5G. Guess I'll just use this watch forever.

I've tried to do restarts, hard restarts, get into the boot menu, etc., but it's just a black screen. No vibrations, noises, or flashing lights or whatever. I wanna say I had 40~50% charge so the battery wasn't dead. First I'd check what's already backed up on google drive/google photos from a computer so you can be sure you need it. As for recovering the phone, it probably depends what's broken. I took mine apart to replace the battery and managed to crack the screen behind the glass (they mean it when they say don't go more than .5mm in on each edge to cut the glue). I replaced the battery and then the broken screen and still managed to damage one of the microphones somehow so I had to use speakerphone or a bluetooth headset for a few months. If you damaged the mainboard all of your data is stored on the flash memory on it and it's probably encrypted. If you broke something else then it could be possible to replace it. One idea is a USB-C dock hooked up to a monitor so you get some kind of display but if there's something broken on the mainboard or the connector to the daughterboard then it might not work.

How would you be available by cell phone if you didn't have one and they don't provide one? They are definitely fuckers if they won't give you a phone or phone allowance and expect you to be available by cell. Anyway, you can use google voice but you cannot use the phone number of a google fi phone to be the linked to number on your google voice. You can keep the google voice app on your google fi phone and see that there have been calls or voicemails to it but I'm not sure it will actively ring. I'm not certain but I also believe you can't use the same google account for both for some reason (I may be wrong about this one). I have a second cell phone number on Ting so I just use that as my google voice forwarded number and just have to hit skip in the google voice app on my google fi phone when it wants to link voice to that phone number. I just get notified about voicemails and can make calls on voice but don't seem to be able to answer them on my Fi phone. It's kind of frustrating that google can't make these two services work together better.
