Older titles may not have the Steam Overlay. When I go to play it in Big Picture Mode I get two warnings:Steam posted:Steam Overlay Disabled: The Steam Overlay is disabled. In-game configuration and some Steam Controller functionality unavailable. I've taken care of the second part already. Looks like the recent updates may have made the SC more responsive this time around. When I went into the game tonight, the right trigger button for left mouse click and the buttons under the SC didn't work properly. Previously, only the tracking worked.

Steam's DualShock 4 support is now publicly available and it looks like I was completely wrong about it only working with native Steam Controller API games.

I'd assume it emulates XInput, they appear to be emulating mouse and keyboard input purely in software too.

Steam picked up my 8bitdo NES30 Pro right away too. I spelled out the basic config and uploaded it - seems they're building a database of stock layouts. Pretty glad to be done with using x360ce to con things into working.

I'm looking into possibly buying a Steam Machine when tax refund season rolls around; anybody have experience with SteamOS to know if its possible to either install Wine or just drop in a second hard drive and dual boot Windows to the Syber Steam Machine? While I love the idea of an off-the-shelf box to run Steam games on my TV...I don't know if I'm willing to sacrifice compatibility with all my Windows-only titles.

I actually have the capability to do both already...my rig is just aging. My goal was to get a small form-factor gaming rig to hook up to the TV and relegate my current system solely to "browsing and occasional netflix-ing"

Posted this originally in the Hitman thread before realising this particular thread existed; does anyone have some tips for setting up aiming in the game with the SC? I can generally get myself into a comfortable place with the thing in other 3rd person games, but it just feels a bit wacky here. I guess tips for general 3rd person action games would be helpful in case I'm doing something wrong anyway.

I ended up following the advice earlier in the thread for Borderlands of adapting the 'high precision' preset and that seems to have done the trick. There's a few less than ideal issues with it (it doesn't seem to like mouse camera control mixed with certain gamepad inputs, such as running) but nothing show stopping.

How is the gyro in the ds4? Do any games take advantage of it? IIRC the gyro in the ds3 or sixaxis or whatever it was called didn't have enough resolution to be used for aiming. The vita one feel great btw

Picked up the Steam Link from the sale and loving it. It really useful for me, as while my pc is in the same room as the tv, hooking them up with a hdmi cord is a pain due to the systems are different resolutions. Constantly having to rearrange browser windows after use and change the game resolution to be lower for the tv is just a pain in the rear end. DS4 on it works great, shame while I am on the beta Steam update, the Steam Link thinks it a generic controller so I still get xbox controller prompts.

The Steam Overlay will recognize it but when you go into a game, the game thinks it is an Xbox controller because Steam is telling the game it is an Xbox controller, hence the Xbox prompts. Only by modding in DS4 prompts or the actual game dev implementing DS4 recognition will there be DS4 prompts.

When I exit big picture mode, quite often steam will immediately start big picture mode again. This sometimes happens four or five times in a row before big picture finally decides to stay closed. This happens on two different computers with completely different hardware setups, but with the same controller. I have the controller set to turn off whenever big picture mode is closed, so every time this happens I have to wait for the big picture splash screen to finish and for the controller to boot up and reconnect. Anyone else have this problem? Anyone find a solution? Google hasn't helped me.

Am I understanding the DS4 stuff correctly that I can use it as an Xinput controller without the DS4 Windows wrappers? And if I pick up a Steam Link I can use a DS4 with it no problem?

I'd imagine that using VirtualHere would allow use of a DS4 and other non-xinput devices to be used as if they were directly plugged into a PC.

Hello again hardware thread. So I went out and picked up a Steam Link, which worked with my DS4 just fine...until it didn't. I used it one morning and in the afternoon it wasn't paired any longer, and I couldn't pair it again. I even tried resetting the controller with the tiny button on the back, to no effect. My computer still could see and pair with the controller, so I'm confident it wasn't the controller's Bluetooth acting up. In any case I bought a Steam Controller (I regretted not doing so anyway) so it's not something I'm concerned with, just letting people know the DS4 stuff still may be ironing out some issues. Now speaking of the Controller, I'm having a slight issue with that now. It seems like if I let the controller power off while playing a game, it doesn't reestablish its configuration when powered up again. So I can mostly use it as a controller but the touchpad won't work and most annoyingly, the Steam button does nothing. If I get off my rear end and walk into the other room to close the game I'm playing, it will immediately pop up that a Steam Controller is connected. Is there a workaround or something? Seems like this is a known issue but I could only find a handful of forum posts about it from a year or more ago.

For some reason sometimes if the controller turns off while you are playing specific games, it comes back as mouse and uses "desktop" config. Some games (like S.T.A.L.K.E.R.) also don't support the steam overlay so you have to change your desktop configs to use a controller with them.

In that case, you can create your own control setup, setting the buttons to match the keys. I made a setup for Freedom Force, where I've practically every command mapped (except for slow down and speed up) and it worked fine for the most part. The mouse precision needed to be calibrated though to stop the cursor flying off the screen.

I had a problem with a gamepad controller dropping out and the mapping coming back as keyboard/mouse. and since the game couldn't do both XIN and KB/M at the same time that mission would get screwed up. I found out that sometimes the controller won't come back as "ControllerName - profile SteamID" but will reattach as "ControllerName -profile GUEST". I had to change the mapping under the guest profile before that problem finally went away.

Does anyone know a way to get Windows 10 store games to play nice with Steam? I just got one of those new Xbone controllers and it works great with the Steam Link, but i cant figure out how to get Forza Horizon 3 in my steam library. It says I need to contact an admin to add the shortcut as a non-steam game? And if I try to launch it by minimizing Steam and going through the windows start menu the controller is running as an emulated mouse and I can't play.

I'm pretty sure games bought through the Windows store are incompatible with Steam due to the way that they're Windows 'apps'. I bought my kid the Win10 Minecraft for Christmas and can't for the life of me get it to play nice with the Steam Link.

Thats what I figured. I suppose I could get a usb adapter, sync the bonetroller to my pc, turn the link on with the Steam Controller and then launch it from the desktop on the tv.

I had the worst time trying to use a fancy Corsair mechanical keyboard with my Alienware Steam Machine. There are no official Linux drivers but stable Debian drivers exist and every step of the installation was an endless chain of missing dependencies. Returned it, got a Logitech mechanical keyboard which is actually kind of nice. Works fine. I kind of regret buying Steam machine. I keep thinking I'll install windows on it, but the thing actually does what it's supposed to - basically playing Linux games and watching YouTube. I managed to get XBMC and VLC installed so I can watch 1080p movies too. The fact that there's few aaa franchises on Linux has forced me to discover awesome cerebral games like Besiege and Slayaway Camp which I might not have otherwise played. Overall I get a ridiculous amount of use out of the box but certain Steam features - like workshop - just don't work well in big picture.

So I'm having a pretty weird and aggravating issue with my steam link. I bought a steam link ages ago but tossed it in my closet because the audio would never go through to my TV, it just played out of my monitor speakers. Yesterday, I dug it out and dusted it off to give it another try and magically the sound was working fine, the audio was coming from my TV. Today it's gone back to no audio being sent to the TV. After some troubleshooting, I can tell it's not the TV. Is this a known issue with a fix? If not I think I'm just done with it.

Do you have a separate sound card or anything? While looking into something else I read that going into the Windows sound taskbar menu and loving around with what is default device can fix that problem.

I'm factory resetting the steam link and then I'll try messing around with the audio device options in the control panel. I did discover that the steam link will push audio to the TV but it switches back to my monitor once I select my PC from the steam link's start menu. e:Factory resetting the Steam Link fixed the audio issue. Trying to get my PS4 controller to work with it using the same steps as I did yesterday, and nothing. I sure wish I could say the Steam Link wasn't a shitshow, but it has been for me.  e2: Got the PlayStation controller to work and that cut the audio again. Anybody else had the issue with the Link where the SC stops working (light stays on though) if you don't use it for a few seconds? Turning it off and on again gets it working again. It's not very consistent, a couple times it's happened right in the middle of using it, and sometimes I can go several minutes of no input without it happening. It only happens while SC is plugged into the Link.
