Get a really big box and live in that. It'll have about the same level of insulation and you can prop it up anywhere you want. Plus your dog will love it and you'll smell about the same level of bad as if you lived on a boat instead

It is most likely not a requirement though. If you're gonna live on a boat it might be a good idea to have taken a safety course regardless of the requirements. But paying for one would cut into the savings!

BaseballPCHiker posted:The way it was explained to me is that it's not lying if I do use it for a business purpose. So if for example I do some "offsite" backups I could justify owning the boat as a business expense for that. I could also claim it as an office and not take the home office deduction. This was a real CPA not some backwater dock accountant either who I met with. You're using it as a primary residence and not "offsite backup" so yea its lying and if/when your insurance finds out they will dump you and/or fine you! He's a bad CPA

Unfortunately the guy is desperate for money and wasnt willing to work out a payment plan even with 1/4 down. So now I have to really scramble to find something or end back up in another overpriced apartment. But renting isn't going to build the boat equity you wanted and you can't resell a rented boat.
