At one point he posted on his Facebook that he was gonna release the last (or second to last?) volume in November 2014 and then it just never appeared and I don't think he mentioned it again unless he's said something in the past like 4 months. I've asked him about it on Twitter a couple of times and he never responded. Maybe if we hound him enough he'll tell us.

Also Liminal States was really good.

thanks for the update

He really out did himself on the latest. I haven't enjoyed a front page like that in a long time. I like how well he emulates other writers, my brain switched over to reading in Bourdain's voice after the first paragraph and it was great. I'm going to tweet this to him, hopefully he reads it.

This last one felt weirdly weak for a Parsons article, but like, that could be personal taste I guess. I'm not necessarily opposed to jokes about social justice or whatever, but these ones felt pretty hackneyed.

It's good because it throws the underlying spite of that mindset into such sharp relief. The comedy isn't in the buzzwords and catchphrases; it's in how goddamn hateful this person really is while pretending and imagining otherwise.

Today's is great. Timely, stinging, and extremely savvy. The standard farce America puts on whenever there's a shocking mass-killing (i.e., every morning) has really gone into high gear now that the news cycle is basically 100% twitter, a medium that a huge number of prominent people still haven't figured out can wreck you if you're too hasty with it. Parsons' sardonic addressed essay style is the perfect response to all the forces at play in the story: bigotry, hoplophilia, web illiteracy, etc. Made my morning.

Yeah Zack is great although his piece about Christopher Hitchens after he died was kinda cheap I thought. It was like oh he was a terrible awful racist imperialist neocon who hated women and was fat and an alcoholic but man there was nobody like him! Kinda came off as the type of intellectual dishonesty he should know better than given his apparent (reluctant) respect for the guy. Hitchens was a freaking marxist ffs.

David Cross is an SA fan? I like him even more now. Arrested Development is brilliant (not the netflix season.....although the Tobias episode was pretty good). With Bob and David? I don't get it. And I love Bob Odenkirk as well. Better Call Saul is one of the best shows on TV. I think that if it hasn't already done so, it will eclipse Breaking Bad.

There.......got all my plugs in.

Hello, sir. I am an enormous fan of Zach Parsons and I enjoyed reading Liminal States, although not as much as most of his other material. It has great scenes, great ideas, pretty good characters but I found it to be a bit scattered. Perhaps there were too many of the aforementioned great things mixed together. Perhaps a bit too serious as well because for me his best work mixes horror, absurdity, and humor. This is honest criticism of a book I definitely finished til the end and enjoyed.

My favorites definitely Convict Connections, instructions for a..., Gentle Creature, the really dark one with alien "angels" and their adversaries.

A funny Parsons anecdote, I was browsing BYOB which I had almost never done before and was reading through a thread. I read a certain post and it was so hilarious and uniquely written that even though I had no idea what his screen name was, I knew it to be his work. I don't think many writers can claim having that kind of truly unique, immediately recognizable style.

This movie sounds like something nobody will watch on Netflix. I'm sure that there will be no laughs to be had because Hollywood (which Netflix clearly wants to be) doesn't do lighthearted action anymore. It has to be dour and gritty.

This is the sort of thing that would have been played for laughs in an early '90s Arnold movie, or a late '90s Will Smith movie. Today, I totally believe that a remake of Men In Black would be every bit as self-important and serious as DC superhero trash like Suicide Squad. I hate Hollywood.
