On one hand, being judged by a jury of one's peers is thought of as a cornerstone of American democracy. On the other, I'd like to think I have a pretty good head on my shoulders, and I'm not sure I'd be qualified to decide whether someone should spend the rest of their lives in prison after being given some brief instructions by a man in a robe.
