i guess i've played puyo puyo without realizing what it was on the snes under the name kirby's avalanche. i sucked really bad it, but i can still see the appeal. i'll always prefer tetris attack though because getting junk dropped on you isn't an instant game over and is often the start of a huge comeback https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMOBtWyazBQ

Sodomy Non Sapiens posted:Tried PuyoVS and it's pretty kickass but I'm real loving bad at it okay time for babbys first puyo lesson the easy way to think of forming chains is that you're shifting puyo over by one to prevent them from linking like instead of going HELL YEAH IM GOING TO POP FOUR YELLOW stick the green there instead and block the yellow off now you have a two chain in place, just pop the green and away you go or you can keep extending the concept further, and instead of putting a green in column 3 put something else under it first now you have another link in the chain and the blues are your key puyo

when i treid really hard to play puyo puyo ds i could get 5 chains if i set my mind to it
|
# ? Nov 5, 2015 06:23 |

you can get 5chain pretty consistently once you get down some patterns stairs (2-2 on top and 3-1 on bottom) easy to visualize but vulnerable to color conflicts sandwich (1-1-2 on top and 2-1-1 on bottom) flexible to build but weak against harassment with patterns you can start planning ahead and placing excess puyo strategically instead of dumping them wherever important note that you shouldn't fall into the trap of trying to match a pattern perfectly, you're almost never going to get the perfect puyos that you need. feel free to mix and match as necessary some noobs try to be anti-establishment and be like 'hurr i dont need to follow patterns, my pattern is freestyle' but usually that just means they're scrubs with nostyle

progress goes by surprisingly quickly in the early stages of learning most people by the time they get to max 5 chain have already picked up rudimentary ideas about patterning, this just gives them a developed toolbox to work with like if you pick up the 20th anniversary puyo game (which is real good and packed with content i recommend it) this is all stuff covered in the tutorial

I was playing a bunch of Dr. Mario and Tetris a few months ago and it made me want to seek out a bunch of vs. puzzle games, especially weird and relatively unknown ones. Two that I discovered and still need to get are Wildsnake and Trip'd: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OE9hfJPm_0k https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bl0p7smFPF0 Discount Viscount fucked around with this message at 01:18 on Mar 14, 2016 |
