here's the thing. people don't have to go onto the interbnet to be more of themselves unless they can't be themselves in person. maybe they like train too much. have too much interest in fountain pen, for those around them. but no one is forced to go Underground about being too good of a person , or respecting women too much . u got to look out for the people who have to find a more easily controlled tabula rasa playground to assert theyre good because they're probably not very convincing in the "real world" where the " people harmed by their behavior" live

I suppose this gets into the usual prescriptivist debate about whether words' meaning should always be fixed and never change, but I think there's still a difference (edit: as mentioned in the link above, the Latin origin for depreciate specifically means to reduce in price, so to me it seems clear it should be used only in a monetary sense) and I'm gonna go ahead and use them for their intended contexts.
