it would make me very happy if the Panthers traded some pointless seventh rounder before tuesday so he could come and retire a panther and when he gets off the plane in charlotte jake, moose, gross, davis, and hoover are all there to carry him off the plane and to his waiting statue in front of the stadium.

He'll never fulfill his blood oath of injuring people. He will now be a whispering wind of trash talk that glides around the cheap seats at Bank of America stadium. RIP in Peace

fun reminder: first time smith touched the ball was as a punt returner week one in 2001 against the vikings. he housed it. then 9/11 happened the next day.

Smith was the best WR in the NFC South for the better part of a decade and the biggest compliment I could pay is that there was no divisional player who I was more scared of the Saints playing. [edit] Also, while he's a massive, gaping rear end in a top hat I will say that he's exactly the sort of massive, gaping rear end in a top hat who you'd love to have on your own team.

This might be my favorite Steve Smith highlight ever. Leaps up sky high, does a 360, stiff-arms a dude in mid air, runs in for a TD, then picks a fight with another dude that didn't even technically hit him. Favorite player to watch, best player the Panthers have ever had. There needs to be a statue of him outside BofA, preferably something frozen from the aforementioned play.

Steve Smith's destiny is returning to Carolina and hosting a radio show like that angry Chicago Bears postgame show for the next 40 years. God that would be amazing. It sucks so bad he won't be in the hall of fame. The dude was a legend.

I find his reaction to his injury fascinating. Tendon goes pop, he rolls over, feels it and points at the sideline like yup that's me done.

Man I wish Steve Smith had been on the Ravens his whole career. He would have fit so well with some of those teams. Like in 2006 we had Steve Smith we'd be Superbowl champions easily that year.

Steve Smith Sr. deserves to be in the hall to represent the Panthers, because unless Cam brings them a Super Bowl, he's gonna represent the first two decades of that team better than anyone.

I hope Carolina does the right thing and signs him to a one-day deal and lets him retire in the fall. I also hope he picks a fight with someone in his retirement presser but let's be honest that part's gonna happen. Didn't the Panthers sign some corner Smith hated after they ditched him? I would also accept a Steve Smith Senior retirement presser that's just him beating Jake Delhomme with a trash can for thirty minutes and poo poo talking him the entire time.
