Storing raw meat at the bottom is actually a safety thing to prevent cross contamination. It's required as a part of safety inspections and for health certifications for restaurants even.

I don't know if this is a more recent thing, but all the cards I've gotten from Chase also have the magnetic strip on them, it's just that the piece of crap card readers refuse to let you use the much, much faster swipe option if they detect your card has the chip.
