The CG style is the same as it was for the cutscenes in 2002, if anything Warcraft influenced those guys.

And somehow not as convincing looking.

And that is a lot of empty space in that screenshot.

This will probably be the most focus group driven production in human history.

And that's okay.

It will probably be so focus-grouped that it can't actually be bad-bad.

Or good.

Duncan Jones is cool tho.

"We have some notes here. Fred, your hat is, and I quote, 'a nice hat' so we'll be reshooting some scenes to make sure you're wearing it. Steve, you have, and i'm quoting 'kind of a dick face' and so we'll be trying to fix that in post."

I'm willing to cut it some slack because we're still six months away and context is pretty drat important, but still, gently caress.

I just realised something. Is this the first game based movie to be based on a PC only series? (aside from one of the Warcraft games briefly popping up on playstation) all the others have been console mainstays.

EDIT: that second shot is just terrible. Like, not from a special effects point of view, but just from a cinematography point of view. All the empty space makes it look like a town meeting, not a coronation. Like, that's a level of visual literacy that TV shows like Game of Thrones and Spartacus have that's missing here.

There was a Company of Heroes film adaptation a few years back, which one of my friends swears I've seen, but I don't believe him because I remember nothing about it.

I think it just used the name. Then again, how would you tell? The game's story is just "There were some guys in world war 2, here's some stuff they did."

The sitting elves etc. on the right have a huge artificial drop shadow all around them in particular.

It's at a slightly different angle for every group. Goddamn. This is almost as bad as those Terminator shots.

The soldiers on the left and right are facing the same direction, but the ones on the left are parallel to the shadow while the ones on the right have their shadows to their side. How close is the sun in this universe, 50 feet away?

I feel like I'm being shitposterty, but I wish I could see what mind boggling terrible thing(s) you guys are seeing. The movie ain't going to be good, but those shots look fine to me.

I mean, the only way I can see someone thinking those shots are bad are the same folks who'd show screenshots of the Thing prequel and swear up and down the Carpenter movie effects were somehow better.

It's a crowd of what looks like a small village watching a coronation attended by people who borrowed their costumes at the last minute in front of a sun that's about 20 metres away and isn't sure where it is.

The shadows in the Hobbit movies pointed the right way, so you're already wrong.

Oh no, the shadows! Will thy not hold out for the script, thou virile goon?

Really? The script?

These are the images they want to use to get people excited, and they're images where the guys holding the lights couldn't decide where to loving stand, and nobody noticed and you think the script is going to redeem it? The script will be "There are some Orcs/Orks/Oruks, let's go fight them" and that's fine. The good bit will be how good it looks when that happens, and not knowing how lights work does not bode well. In story telling, that's called foreshadowing. But yeah, I should wait for the script.

"I mean, there was that one scene in the forest where John appeared to be under water but Bill, right next to him, was a cell phone, but the dialogue in that bit just sparkled."

The writing and voice acting is pretty terrible, but I'm pretty sure I'd rather watch a movie that looks like that than a movie that looks like the Warcraft trailer.

Of course that would probably be like 300 million dollars more expensive to make.

Making a movie look good is not nearly as hard the trailer made it seem.

No. The thread is full of people laughing at Games Workshop's staggering ineptitude and pettiness. Games Workshop is a car-wreck of a company and its only through blind luck that they've lasted as long as they have
