I believe Captain D's has contracted a lot in recent years, I recall it having a much larger footprint when I was younger. I don't think I've eaten at one in at least two decades.

Popeyes has a fish and shrimp side of the menu, but it’s the wrong choice compared to their chicken.

Popeyes' pared their menu down a while back and their lone year-round seafood offering now is popcorn shrimp. Their shrimp po' boy may have been my grandmother's favorite fast food item; I think she was genuinely more upset about it being removed from their menu than she was about having cancer.

I'll often make the Sloppy Boys drink of the week to enjoy as I listen, as long as I doesn't involve buying something like a $45 bottle of liqueur.

This week I'm skipping the drink because I don't think The Lineup is physically possible, for me at least.

The sound that Mitch makes after his second Lineup is very worrisome

edit: lol there's like 17 minutes left in the episode and Mitch has said "Bye!"/tried to end it like 5 times already while his drunk buddies press on

The funniest and most believable part of the story was that after apologizing and admitting that it was a dumb stunt, Mitch kept getting "But seriously, what's the deal?" phone calls.

Walked by a restaurant on my lunch break just now and was reminded of "Pho, ramen, soup: rank 'em!"

For those that missed the Power Hour livestream: Nick drank three large Baja Blasts; he had considered doing non-alcoholic eggnog but Natalie told him outright "You aren't going to do that." Meanwhile Mitch couldn't be there in person because his mum had surgery recently. So of course he was in Quincy, calling in from the bathroom at a friend's house, during the middle of an actual party.

I mean, when he's right, he's right.

Half a year late but I'm just now listening to the spring tour episodes and having a good laugh at Mitch coping with his friends tearing down Bertucci's and pointing out that this place has declined in the 20-odd years since he ate there regularly. Gabrus and Wiger agree that this is the kind of restaurant that you'd be excited to go to as a kid, so Mitch immediately counters with "Well I think that Bertucci's is like...it's an older kid's restaurant, y'know, like, it's cool for older kids."

The recent Boston-area live episodes were especially great. The story of how Mitch drove the Doughboys crew around for hours while pointing out essentially every building they passed and having some story about how it related to his youth was perfect.

You get into the industry because you're passionate about film/TV, and then the second that your livelihood depends on it your opinions curdle and you can only view modern productions through a business lens. Marvel/Superhero movies are the cancer killing the industry*, the focus on tentpole franchise releases has shoved small/mid-budget projects out of theatrical into television/digital space, where talent both in front of and behind the camera make significantly less for more work.

*(Until you, or a person you know who could get you work, gets a job on one. Then they're great, everybody on the project is so committed to it, no criticism will ever be uttered in a public forum. Pratt's great to work with, actually.)

They've slowly shifted to only covering new games about once a month in the We Play, You Play episodes. The other weeks they'll talk about the franchise or genre of that month's big game in general.

The issue at the heart of the matter is that movie podcasts are like "Let me commit 2-3 hours of my week to watching this specific film so I can talk about it," whereas a video game podcast is like "Okay, to talk about this new release I need to put in at least 2.5 hours every day before the next recording, and then maybe I can cover the first half of the game." I suspect that's also why they have guests so infrequently now, not wanting to ask people to do a dozen hours of prep for a 90 minute recording.

I fell way behind on the show and have been binging episodes to get current. "Is Christmas a cookie holiday" was, by far, the stupidest debate/bit in this show's long history of deeply stupid debate/bits.

Anybody who uses a third party app to order delivery and a big part of their review is "Doordash messed up my order!!!" should be banned from the show for life. Sorry, Lapkus, I don't care that you've only eaten Chiptole once before(???), you messed up big time, goodbye. (This also, unfortunately, means that Mitch is eternally banned from his own show.)

Susser showing up unannounced/uninvited for the Two Hands episode and being annoyed that there wasn't food for him was like Susser's role on the show, distilled.

The Narrator posted:

The Let Me Be Frank shaggy dog story in Two Hands got me an absolute beauty

Maybe it was because I had just listened to two or three episodes in short order where Mitch admitted to doing the "IT'S FOR A PODCAST" thing, but it was so easy for me to believe Wiger would absentmindedly moan "...I NEED IT FOR THE WIGER CHALLENGE." He got me good.

They don't have guests on very often so the vibe is very different than Doughboys, but it's a very chill podcast that is just goofy fun. Mitch's recent appearence was their best episode that I've heard.

And it gets goofier as the episodes go on and the drink of the week kicks in (For example: The episode with Mitch where they all do The Lineup at least once, and the last 15-20 minutes of the episode are Mitch trying to wrap it up while the Boys grow increasingly Sloppy and keep going off on goofy tangents.)
