I'm trying to think of reasons why fans would want to keep watching this. Lions fans have acknowledged they can't win with Stafford, and they like CJ enough to want to see him win which they acknowledge won't happen there At least having no reason to watch is better than reasons that just keep making you sad because you know how it'll end anyway

That makes sense. I suppose some optimism can come from the prospect of a tabula rasa. I hope CJ can find some success elsewhere.

Stafford is a known commodity at this point and I doubt he's something a high profile coach would want to deal with. I mean yeah you could bring in Mike Shula I guess. Stafford needs to be somewhere with a good running game and defense where he can just manage the offense for a while. He's shot between the ears.

I really hope they don't dip into the Belichick well for the next guy. The hope has always been that Stafford would have a Flacco/Eli-style epiphany and just go off for a stretch. Hasn't happened since 2011, though.

Matt Stafford will still end up somewhere as a starter. Not a good one mind you, but he will end up someplace. I was surprised when Mark Sanchez wasn't picked up by a team to start with Quarterback issues but anything can happen! (its been awhile but I think Matt Stafford is probably better than Mark Sanchez)

Listening to Valenti and Foster at work to celebrate. Foster, who is pretty well connected with the Lions, said that he was never able to confirm it but he heard from a few people that Mayhew would periodically call Millen for advice.

The Lions have a female owner, female CEO, black general manager and black head coach. I'm not kidding about this; I appreciate their commitment to diversity, especially after the way Millen immediately broke the Rooney Rule when it was implemented.

Lions lead the league at scoring.. that number 1 draft pick according to ESPN. quote:Chance of picking No. 1: 23.5 percent Remaining schedule: @Packers Raiders Eagles Packers @Rams @Saints 49ers @Bears The final stretch of three games looks like there could be some wins there, with the 49ers game probably being pretty critical for determining the top 3 picks. The Niners and Titans winning last week pretty much locked Detroit into the #1 pick. Even if they beat SF (which looks like the only winnable game left) and SF loses out, Detroit would have two wins to their three. Maybe the bad Eagles show up on Thanksgiving and Detroit plays their asses off and steals a win, but I wouldn't predict anything higher than 3-13. VV Also this.
